Accutane Journal

Okay. So the first week is over, and there are some side effects I’ve been noticing, some good, some not so pleasant. I was surprised that by the second day I already had some dry lips and flaky skin on my face, mostly on my cheeks and around my mouth. Later in the week I noticed that my skin began to itch. I’ve been reading other journals and I guess other people have been experiencing this also, but hopefully it will end soon. I used to tan in a tanning bed, and when I would accidently stay in too long I would itch really bad, this is exactly what it feels like. I have noticed that my forehead is clear, I’m not sure if it is because of the accutane already, but it’s GREAT! haha. I haven’t had a chance to get a good moisturizer, I’ve just been using what I had before and it doesn’t seem to be sufficient. I plan to go to the store later and get cetaphil, I hear that it has worked great for others, so I thought I would give it a try. I did notice that I had a couple new pimples on my cheek, closer to the jaw line, where I usually get them the worst. This might just be the initial breakout but it seems too soon, who knows?!? Well, I hope the itching goes away, but other than that I am sooo excited to see the transformations and the great things to come.

Starting Treatment

I began accutane not having severe acne, but a significant amount. I was pretty hesitant about going on the medication; I usually never have the need to take any prescription drugs or any medication for that matter. I was on Differin for about 6 months and wasn’t noticing a difference, so I consulted with my physician and we decided that we would try something a little stronger. So that’s that, I’m on this medication to clear up my acne and become more confident in my own skin.
