I have been on tetracyline, retin-a and clindamyacin gel for about a month now and I am sooooo happy with the results. I don't have any cystic acne on my face! My face used to feel so bumpy to the touch but now all of the bumpiness is gone! Now I just have a couple tiny pimples and leftover red marks from all the acne I was dealing with. I know the retin-a is supposed to help with lightening the red marks so hopefully it continues to do it's job. When I am wearing makeup my skin looks clear and I have confidence that eventually my skin will be clear without the makeup!

I started the tetracycline (500 mg twice a day) last Friday night so I have been on it for a week. I hate how sick it is making me feel! I feel nauseous all the time now and it really sucks! Hopefully it will be worth it in the end and hopefully the nausea won't be so bad when I am only taking 250 mg twice a day. I have also been on the clindamyacin gel a week and I think it's working but I can't be sure. I have been taking the retin-a for five days now and I haven't had any bad side affects really. My face hasn't been red or flaky, but I have gotten a couple pimples but nothing worse than usual. I hope I'm one of the lucky ones and the big breakout isn't coming. My face actually looks pretty good right now. I don't have all that many bumps on my face although I do have tons and tons of red marks from previous acne. Also, I have some big cysts between my eyebrows and some healing ones on my left cheek. I hope they go away soon! I have changed up my routine a bit so I am going to repost what my regimine currently is.

I was really trying to figure out how to clear my acne without getting on prescriptions and antibiotics but I really wasn't seeing the improvements that I wanted. So...I went to the student health center on my college campus and talked to a doctor about a solution for my problem. She put me on 1000 mg a day of tetracyline for 10 days (500 in the morning and 500 at night) and then 500 mg a day thereafter, Retin-A cream in the morning, and clindamycin 1% at night. I told her my wedding is in less than six months and that I really want clear skin by then, she told me that it would not be a problem...I really need her to be correct! So here is my regimen now.

Oral:

Generic BC of Desogen

Tetracyline

1000 mg Vitamin C

1200 mg fish oil

Diet:

Still trying to avoid dairy products as much as possible but I do have to have my coffee creamer and cheese on my sandwiches.

Morning:

Neutrogena Oil-free acne wash cream cleanser (in the shower)

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque (leave on 15 minutes) every few days

Retin-A

Ponds dry skin cream

Night:

Ponds Cleansing Towelettes

Oil of Olay moisturizer

Clindamycin 1% gel

Day 6

Today my face is looking even better. The right side of my face doesn't hardly have any bumps, just a few little ones. There are probably around five medium sized bumps on the left side of my face near the corner of my mouth, but they are definitely getting smaller and hopefully will be gone soon. I have sixteen days left until the engagement pictures and I am feeling pretty confident that most of the bumps will be gone by then and I can easily cover the red spots left over with makeup. Yay!!! I feel like I am getting a grip on my acne!

Day 5

Even better today...I still have the bumps under the skin and my face is really scarred but with makeup on I don't look half bad. A big flake of skin came off today (kinda gross, sorry) but I didn't want to take it off because then you would just see my red skin underneath without the makeup on top so I just left it flaky until I got home. I was pretty dang self conscious all day which really sucked but I know it's from the BP and I know that it's getting my face better so it's worth it. Hoping for continued improvement.

Day 4

My face is even better today. Like I'm actually feeling pretty good about myself and having a "pretty day". I'm sure every girl understands what I'm talking about. I look pretty good with makeup on because I'm really good at disguising all the redness, but the crappy part is you can't disguise the bumps. I have little bumps all around my mouth and they are slowly getting heads on them and then slowly fading. I am so wishing they would just go away! Hopefully soon (like before the engagement photos in two and a half weeks) I will have smooth skin even if I have red pigmentation leftover. Next time I go to the store I am going to buy some zinc supplements because I heard that those help acne out. I'm basically trying everything...

Day 3

So I started the new birth control last night and I got really nauseous from it. I woke up in the middle of the night and went to the bathroom and almost threw up. I ended up laying on the bathroom floor for a little bit just trying to settle my stomach before I went back to bed. Anyway, I think it's just a day number one thing and hopefully I will be fine from here. My acne is improving. It's still not great but at least I see some improvement. I can't wait for the day went I can feel my skin and it's not all bumpy. It's so hard worrying about your skin and your body. Since I'm getting married in six and half months I am also on this huge bride workout diet regimen which just makes me all around body conscious. I am not large by any means (I'm a size 8) but I just want to look great on my wedding day. I am currently working out four or five days a week and trying to watch what I eat.

Day 2

Call me crazy but I think I already see some improvement. I will be taking my first pill of the new birth control tonight so hopefully that will start to show improvement within the next week. Fingers crossed. Also, I am now taking two of the fish oil fills in the morning to see if that will have any benefit. As of now I have raised bumps around the sides of my mouth and between my eyebrows and a healing cystic one on my chin. Pretty much when I take off my makeup there is redness and zits everywhere and also scars left over from old breakouts. Thank the heavens for makeup... As soon as I can actually make the acne stop I can concentrate on getting rid of the scarring.

The beginning

I am going to try some new things in an effort to rid myself of this acne which is threatening to ruin me. I am so sick of waking up to new big zits and the agony when I feel a big cystic one coming on. My engagement pictures are supposed to be in three weeks and I'm really hoping my skin looks better by then. My wedding is in six and a half months and I am desperate to have clear skin by the big day and for the honeymoon or else there is no way I am getting in that water and having my makeup rinsed off. It's bad enough for my fiance to see me without makeup when I go to bed at night and wake up in the morning.

What I am trying:

Oral:

Generic BC of Desogen (I am upping to this dose of hormones from a lower dose)

1000 mg Vitamin C

50 mcg Vitamin B-12

1200 mg Fish Oil

Women's multi-vitamin

Diet:

I am cutting out dairy products since I read that they have been found to be linked to acne

Morning:

Neutrogena Oil-free acne wash cream cleanser (in the shower)

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque (leave on 15 minutes)

Neutrogena Rapid Clear Salicylic Acid (2%) Treatment Pads

Beauticontrol Extreme Repair AHA moisturizer

Night:

Ponds Cleansing Towelettes

Oil of Olay moisturizer

Neutrogena On-the-spot acne treatment Benozyl peroxide (2.5%)

**The big changes are cutting out dairy, the new birth control, and the SA in the morning and BP at night. I really, really need to see some improvement.
