So, i'm finally going to change my diet and see what happens. I'm on a system cleanse and now taking alot of added calcium, magnesium, vitamin d3 and cod liver oil along side artichoke tabs.

Over the last two weeks I've given into ALL of my junk food cravings and despite it all..my skin in still clearing, so now i'm going to eat healthy and see if the added supplements and the cleanse clear my skin allllll the way.

I'm a vitamin/supplement junky...and finally i think i've gotten the right combination down for myself. In about two weeks I'm going to post before and after photos.

I'm really excited!

so, i know EVERYONES body is different...perfect example...my sister started taking apple cidar vinegar tablets a few years back because of something she'd read that said it boosted overall health. all her life....25 years...she had horrible, cracked, thin, peeling nails. she couldn't grow them long and always enviously admired my healthy long pink with white tip nails. well, about three weeks into adding ACV tabs to your regimen her nails started growing stronger and longer than she'd ever witnessed and even nicer than mine. so, i started taking it, and all it did was give me two recurrent yeast infections until i realized it was too much acid for me. (even though it says it alkalizes your body!)

well, so to my point: i've decided to try a new regimen for myself and it really seems to work this time.

note: i am in the entertainment industry, which means, a ton of stress AND my skin has to look good at all times. IT CERTAINLY HASN'T OVER THE LAST YEAR, WHICH I KNOW HAS HINDERED MY SUCCESSES IN THIS INDUSTRY OVER THE LAST YEAR.

so, anyhow, this is the regimen:

gym: 3-4 times a week, 30 min. of solid cardio, 15-20 minutes in the sauna

face steam: with about 20 drops tea tree oil and 1 to 2 cups bottled spring water in only stainless steel cookware

nighttime topical: retin-a at night, alternating .01 and .04 strengths

daily skincare: arbonne skincare line, the adult formula (orange containers) which is very NON ALLERGENIC, because my face is allergic to practically everything, especially anything with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. this seems to feel just fine on my skin day and night.

water: 1-2 liters/day

------THE MOST IMPORTANT ADDITION TO MY REGIMEN-----

MULTI VITAMIN, LIQUID MULTI BY COUNTRY LIFE

LIQUID CALCIUM/MAGNESIUM/D3 BY COUNTRY LIFE

CARLSON'S COD LIVER OIL

ARTICHOKE TABLETS 1-2 TIMES A DAY WITH MEALS

CAL/MAG/D3 TABLETS EVERY ONCE AND AWHILE ADDTL TO THE LIQUID

& quintessential!!!!:

VISUALIZATION: AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE (ONCE A DAY AT MOST) EVERY TIME I STEAM MY FACE I CLOSE MY EYES AND MENTALLY VISUALIZE LOOKING INTO THE MIRROR AT MY FACE AND SEEING A PERFECT, GLOWING COMPLEXION....FLAWLESS, AND I FEEL ALL THE FEELINGS ATTATCHED (I know this sounds a little anthony robbins personal power-ish and "the secret"-ish!)

but it works!!!

so, the reason i believe it's working: i believe my body was calcium deficient b/c i rarely consume dairy based on the fact that my body doesnt digest it well. because of the retin a on my face and the side effects from being directly in the sun, i also believe i was deficient in vitamin D, i believe my liver is being helped with the cod liver oil and artichoke tablets. the Liquid for of multi vitamin is more actively available for my body and therefore is absorbed better. and finally, the tea tree is topically assisting in the cellular turnover and purging. note: zits ARE NOT coming to the surface, they're instead, drying up and just going away!!! just seriously going away.

i am amazed every morning i awake to see them disappearing!!! gradually!

please, if you read this try it!!!!! try it!!! try! what do you have to lose????? Nothing! only GAIN!!!!

also, i'll be sure to post before/after photos of my skin AND a follow up in a few weeks! :) good luck!!!

:D hello, i'm back. my goal was to try accutane starting monday july 23, 2007. because of the terrifying side effects i kept reading about, plus the fact that i haven't spoken with any women personally who had excellent results, ive cancelled my appointment and will only reschedule if the approach i'm taking now doesn't work.

so, this is it:

over the last couple months my dermatologist prescribed me doxycycline...evoclin and retinamicro .04% and .1% topicals. almost one month ago i got on birth control for the sake of accutane. i'm on ortho tricyclen lo. and, it appears that every day since the birth control my skin has been getting more and more clear.

when i first started with the initial severe acne breakout...i had a bunch of little rash like zits covering mainly my forehead, but also on my chin and cheeks. i took the doxycyline for about a week, then got off b/c i didn't like the idea of taking antibiotics everyday, plus it made my tummy feel funny. well, after the second visit to the derm..i thought i'd try it again b/c the skin still looked like shit but additionally i had bigger zits. so, i went back on the doxycycline for two weeks...it gave me tons of tummy grumbling and gas and made me slightly naseaous at times...to counteract it, i took a lot of acidophilus....AND especially a bifidus...which was what really helped in the end. so, the little zits went away and i was left with bigger ones. all along i've been using the topical evoclin antibiotic and retina micros. what has happened is that big zits started coming out all over my chin and cheek areas. about three weeks ago i added the birth control ortho lo and it seems as though the big zits are going away...very slowly, but going.

i haven't changed my diet at all....if anything i've been eating alot of junk food. usually chocolate, sugar, dairy, red meat and fatty foods...like mcd's french fries which usually contribute to breakouts, but it really hasn't gotten outta control. i don't know what's making it better, but it's clearing.

so anyhow, my regimen:

AM: evoclin, birth control, skin care line by arbonne

afternoon: sometimes if a zit comes to a head, i pop it, which i know isn't good, but then i smoother it in more evoclin or retina and it usually heals within a day or two...scars, but the scars go away in about two weeks with the retin a and face scrub pads that i use religiously. if i wear make up its bare minerals....which is the most fantastic non acne contributing makeup!

also to note: the retin a micro does excessively dry out my skin, but i use those scrub pads and scrub scrub scrub at least three times a day and it looks fine 80% of the time, plus use a GREAT moisturizer. :wavey:

PM: topical retina micro .04% and .1%...stronger formula on the zit areas especially my forehead which used to get really oily, but doesn't anymore since i've started on the retina. and i use my arbonne skincare line...it's fantastic by the way

my diet: right now it's not good, but i am working on it.

as i've heard the liver's state of health contributes to overall complexion and health so i take supplements for that....dandelion tea (very occasionally-roasted which is a great coffee replacement) milk thistle and a combined liver regenerator supplement (i just started). i'm also on something called hair factors(which i also just started).

that's all for now. promise i will upload photos soon.

:D also, i've started taking yoga and pilates!

christalclear:)

So, I've read through many posts, especially those concerned with accutane as I've heard some negative side effects and was getting frightened before i even get started. I want to post my progress as i go along..noting everything i eat (supplements) how i feel and what i look like physically...my face that is!

THE BEGINNING:

I've never really had flawless skin...a few zits here and there since midway through high school. In the past I felt i could control it with my diet. If i avoided sugar and carbs and munched on veggies and protein it seemed to go away. but, the moment i returned to the sugar and carbs the zits would return. well, in april of this year (2007) my acne started getting worse. I was/am getting zits on my cheeks, my nose, my forehead, my chin, my back, my shoulders, my chest (and i'm a girl!...not sexy having chest/back/body breakouts...talk about disgusting!!!). so, i of course tried an elimination diet....for about three weeks....absolutely no change in complexion...all zits still there. i did colon cleansing....first with supplements..then with hydrotherapy.....no change...then i started using proactive again and it made my eyelids swell and face red/itchy and completely irritate (which it hadn't done in the past). ...so then i stopped using makeup...it helped a little...but i'm an actress (and used to model) and cannot go without makeup for long. i started using the entire dermalogica skin care line...i started having allergic reactions to it as well. frustrated and getting depressed i decided maybe it's hormonal and that i'd try birth control for the first time in my life. i got on yasmin....and ten days in i was nearly suicidal....finally, pist off, i decided i was going to find a dermatologist that would prescribe me accutane no matter what!!!!

now, i say that...because my acne is not nearly as severe as some of the people i've seen on this page...i don't have tons of huge cystic acnes all over ever inch of my skin...however, the acne i have is ruining my career and making me depressed to the point where i don't want to go out and socialize b/c i hate the thoughts of my skin looking like i'm an unhealthy individual when i'm totally the opposite. i eat organic (which my mom thought might be a partial cause of the acne) i exercise regularly. i'm healthy. i pray...etc, etc.

so, on monday july 23rd or tuesday july 24th i return to my dermatologist to talk about the accutane (after the 31 day grace period of getting registered, first blood tests, etc.)

i'm a little worried about the side effects i have heard RE: and especially hair thinning as my hair is the thinnest it's ever been in my life already...so, i do know there are other drugs out there for thinning hair and i'm willing to see how accutane will effect me without assuming it will destroy my insides.

i am currently using a great skincare line by Arbonne and mineral makeup by bare minerals...both which i love. i am also now taking a birth control called tri cyclen lo....i exercise four to five times a week.

also i take liver supplements, multi vitamins, extra vitamin c.

i look forward to writing again soon after my derm appt. i also look forward to recording my progress, side effects, answer any questions, etc. i will post a photo...photos soon!

take care and joy to all !!! :D (i know that sounds cheesy, but it's better than opposite!!!) :wavey:
