I'm a 16 year old female (junior in highschool).
I've had acne since I was about 12 or 13...I used to have it just on my forhead back them.
Then when I turned 14 I started to get it on my forehead and cheeks.
When I turned 15, my acne was all over my face.
It wasn't nodular/cystic acne...but it was persistent and embarrassing.
I had tried every medication you can think of.
Benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, tea tree oil, minocycline, tetracycline, retin a, ziana, differin, benzaclin, birth control pills and many other treatments.
Most of these treatments helped slightly, but not enough to really make a difference.
I still had visible acne and thanks to some of the treatments, I also had peeling and redness.
That's when I decided to try accutane.
My mom and I were a little nervous to do it at first because of everything we'd heard about the side effects, but we were desperate.
I began it in June during the summer before my sophomore year of highschool.
It took about 3 and a half months to really start clearing me up, but believe me, it did clear me up.
After the 4 month mark when I really started getting clear, I stayed clear for the rest of the school year.
It was amazing.
I felt better than I ever had.
So much confidence...I could finally look people in the eye.
I never had to mess with all those annoying topicals.
And best of all?
I experienced none of the crazy side effects everyone was telling me about except for some mild lip chapping.
So that was the good news.
I said I stayed clear for the rest of the school year...and I did.
But then summer came.
This May I began to break out again.
I didn't think anything of it at first, but over the summer it has gradually gotten worse and worse.
My dermatologist didn't want to put me on Accutane again so soon after my first round, so I tried Minocycline again...no success.
Then I tried differin, benzaclin, and yasmin birth control again...still no success.
So I went back to the dermatologist and literally pleaded with him to put me back on accutane.
And amazingly, he agreed.
I have to wait the 30-day period before I can get my perscription.
I'm getting it September 2nd.
Right now my skin looks worse than it ever has.
My acne is out of control.
I'm really hoping Accutane will work as well as it did for me the first time...and I'm hoping the results will last this time.
My acne has taken such a toll on my self esteem and my life...I've missed out on so much this summer because I'm ashamed for my friends to see my face.
I've completely avoided going out in public all summer.
I really hope accutane will give me my life back...
Wish me luck.
