About this blog

Okay, a little background on me. I went back to my derm last week because, after 4 months stopping doxycycline 100mg, my skin broke out again. My derm decided to put me of Spirolactone because my acne seemed to be breaking out in the 'hormonal bearded area'. Prior to that, since January 2018, I was undergoing a 6 session course of Intense Pulse Laser treatment. So far, I have only done 3 sessions so far and have decided to postpone the last 3 treatments to July, so it wouldn't be wasted for the Initial Breakout. My derm decided to start me on 25mg of Spiro, and adding another 25mg every two weeks. I've been so conflicted on taking this medication because I personally cannot deal with going through another purging stage. But as you probably can tell I decided to take it and I'm on day 7 now. I'm going through a purge right now with new spots popping up every day and in places, I never used to breakout before. I have painful clusters under my jaw, on my jawline, forehead, and cheeks.

So I can officially say that it has been a whole month of taking spironolactone. I've decided to keep my dose to 50 mg as I have noticed major improvements on my face - starting with forehead which was filled with cystic acne just over a month ago and now I have none.  I still have a small number of breakouts on my cheeks and a couple on my jaw but it is not as worse as how it was before I started taking spiro. I am however left with a lot of scars and pigmentation which I know can be sorted out as soon as my acne clears up so I'm not dwelling on that. Excited to see what month 2 will bring.... fingers crossed.

SO, it has been 2 weeks since I started taking spiro at 25mg and my forehead has cleared up, which makes me happy as hell. However, I still do have acne and some cysts on my cheeks, it looks like its clearing up too but very slowly. I don't wanna jinx it tbh. Even though my doctor told me to up my dose every 2 weeks, I feel like 25 mg is okay for me as the side effects are barely noticeable and I have heard that you do breakout again once you up your dose.  Since its only been 2 weeks since I've started taking spiro, I'm going to wait till my 1-month mark on spiro to see if my acne has improved well enough for me to up my dose or just stay on 25mg. On the bright side, exams are over so I'm free and I have no clue what to do with my life right now. My 20th birthday is in 3 weeks though so that's something to look forward too I guess? The fact that I'm turning 20 still hasn't hit me so its weird as hell.

So I'm on Day 7 now and I feel worse than I did yesterday. I woke up with new cysts popping up all alongside by lower jaw and under my chin and forehead. It's absolutely horrible, I don't even want to look in the mirror anymore. I'm also currently in the middle of my exams for university so I think I might be breaking out due to stress as well. I've also been using Epiduo on active acne in the evening to get them to shrink down and all but not much of a difference because when one goes another cluster pops up. I only have two more exams left and literally feel like I have to put on a brave face and go out and sit these exams and then I can officially stay home and deal with this initial breakout. 25mg of Spiro is causing me to breakout like this, I'm worried about upping my dose to 50 mg next Thursday. My hormones are a bloody mess. I'm praying this works, cause I don't know what to turn to anymore. I know this is going to take time, as I've read so many other peoples experience with Spiro. But I'm just trying to be strong for this breakout.

If anyone has been on Spiro - How long was your initial breakout?
