12 Weeks into Accutane

Alright, week 12… halfway done!

Definite improvement! I feel like the breakouts have almost stopped completely.. I have only had a few minor ones in the last week, really not bad at all. The cysts under the skin are getting smaller and are getting closer to the surface. Also, the ingrown hairs that have been under the skin for nearly a year have gotten close enough for me to finally extract them.. I know its probably not good to do that, but generally if I’m careful, it doesn’t result in scarring and only takes a week or so to heal… just red marks for a little while. In the end its worth it to me though because otherwise those hairs just sit under the skin forever.

On another medical note, I had 4 wisdom teeth taken out on tuesday (which is why my mouth may look swollen in my pictures).. and yes, it was hell. I don’t think the accutane affected the surgery at all, however, having my dry lips pried open for about 2 hours was probably worse than it usually is for other patients. In addition, I think it is taking my lips a lot longer to heal.. they still are cut up pretty bad. Anyways, it will be nice to have them out, so I’ll deal.

I guess that’s all, not much more to report other than the fact that its going very well! Good luck to everyone else. For all those accutane users in the first couple of months, hang in there!! I know it can be rough, but it will get better!

You look great, congratulations!!!! I've followed your progress. Did they not put you "out" when removing the wisdom teeth? 2 hrs seems like a long time. When I got mine out, they gave me an IV and to my surprise I was awake like 20 minutes later, all done.

    Anyway, good luck with everything.

hi your skin looks great, i was wondering how long it took u to see some improvements because I'm breaking out way wrost than before accutane. I'm on my 5th week of accutane at 40 mg by the way (i'm 110 lbs). I'm getting like 2-3 new pimples every day. Some of them are healing very slowly but the rate of healing and the rate of new pimple growth does not match up. It's pretty rough for me right now cuz i feel bad everytime i look at my face. I hope accutane starts working soon.

Ahh yes, 3 of the 4 teeth took a total of about 30 minutes, but the 4th was impacted WAY below the bone. The surgeon ended up having to break it into about 10 pieces, removing one at a time... It was certainly not a "normal" wisdom tooth by any means. I did have novocain and nitrus oxide which made me kinda woozy, but I was not completely out. He said it was one of the most difficult teeth he has ever had to remove!

Take a look at my week 5, 6, and 7 pictures. I know how you feel, it was extremely discouraging still breaking out after a month of accutane. I don't know if I really believe the "purge" theory that accutane has to get rid of all the acne that has been hiding under your skin, but what I do know is that when you start accutane, you stop everything else! All the other treatments that your skin has been used to suddenly stop, and unfortunately, accutane does not start working on day 1. Therefore, there will be a gap in there where it gets worse and it sucks. However, I can tell you after 12 weeks pf using this drug, it will get better. I searched around on the internet read probably 300 user reviews on the drug and it sounds like about 90-95% of them are satisfied at the end. Most of them also mention that it does take some time, often a couple of months. Be patient, drink water, and stay confident!!
