    How old are you, Cyberguy?

Your acne doesn't seriously detract from your otherwise charming face.

Take care of your skin as best as you can, and don't forget that there are still things you can improve about yourself even if the acne is stubborn.

    > How old are you, Cyberguy?

I just turned 18 last march.

    > Your acne doesn't seriously detract from your otherwise charming face.

Haha, thanks! Even though it isn't a horrible case of acne, I still wish it didn't make me stick out. Seems like everyone I know has clear skin, and it's really annoying.

I'm already weight lifting, riding a recumbant excersise bike, and drinking lots of water (when I remember to). So my body and skin is in excellent condition everywhere except on my face and shoulders. I think those areas must be more succeptible to sweat and grime, because that's where I get all my acne.

This may be a stupid question but I was wondering what you have tried to clear up you acne.

Have you gone to a derm and if so what did they suggest?

I am 21 however had a very similar case of acne to yours when I was about 18-19. I did go and see a term and was prescribed every antibiotic and topical that was availiable (execpt accutane) but nothing really helped much so all the appointments and medicines were basically a waste of time.

I would just tell you to hang in there because for me personally I only noticed the acne starting to slowly get better as I have gotten older.

Currently I only get a couple of pimples on my forehead which is nothing comparred to what I had in the past so it doesnt worry me. I think that over the next year or so I will probably outgrow it so hopefully you are in the same boat to.

BTW even though I am a guy I can honestly say that you are a goodlooking guy with or without the acne so that is a huge positive.

    Anyway good luck with everything.

BTW I started lifting weights a couple of years ago how much do you bench?

I haven't been to a derm yet, but I have been to our regular doctor. He prescribed me some Doxycycline and Retin-A Topical cream. I'm not taking the Doxycycline anymore since it's lost it's effectiveness, but while I was on it, it helped clear things up a lot. Unfortunatly for me, my acne has been getting worse ever since I got off the stuff.

I've had my acne since I turned 14, and it's only gotten a little better in the last 4 years. So I see what your saying about it going away slowly. I wish it went away faster though. Seems like whenever I try new ideas to help my face heal, it takes about a month to see any effect.

Thanks! It makes me glad to know other people outside my family think so too.

I just started lifting weights a week ago, so I'm still on the small weights (50lb). I'm doing it mostly for endurance, so I try to do as many reps as I possibly can with the weight. I'll up the weight once it starts getting too easy.

you've come a long way man.

ive started to work out too, but i havent noticed any adverse affects from sweating yet. If anything, it has seemed to help me clean out my pores.

I agree, you're still pretty good looking :P

Unfortunately I think peak age for acne in men is around 18/19, but on the bright side with time and treatment things can only get better, goodluck with everything!

There is a guy I know who has your type of acne, I actually think his was worse. Anyway he is the same age as yourself and he went on accutane. His skin is now perfectly clear. I went on accutane in the past but it was for mild acne so it is better to use the example of the guy i know. But anyway his skin is really really clear now. He had it on his chest too and had scars but that is all gone now. I can not say how good accutane is. Seriously, if you want to clear up your skin. Use accutane.

I keep hearing that Accutane works for people. The only thing that scares me about using it is that Accutane has got some really nasty side-effects. I'm not sure that any of them would actually happen, but I don't wanna risk it.

I guess the decision to go on accutane really depends on how bad having the acne bothers you and/or if it may scar. For me I just couldn't stand it anymore, as I let it really put a dent in my confidence. I just started it 2 days ago. For me the listed side effects will be worthwhile if itll clear my skin. I guess its just a personal decision.

    i vouch for accutane too.

I only wish I had used it earlier. Take a look at my photo album on this forum. I think my acne was the same or worse.

The side effects of accutane aren't really troublesome. If you aren't depressed now, I think it isn't likely you will be depressed while on accutane. Your skin and eyes will be dry, and it takes a small hit on your liver. But if you are otherwise healthy right now, accutane shouldn't be a problem.

If you don't get your cysts under control now, you will have many more scars in the future. Scar treatment is costly. Accutane isn't.... with health insurance of course..

I also had good results with accutane, though it is coming back now, about a year after i finished the treatment. The side effects aren't that bad---I had dryness, but it wasn't that horrible, I may have had some achiness but I'm not even sure, and it certainly hasn't lasted.

    TJF,

Your acne might have come back because you didn't use any pills/drugs after using accutane to control it furthur or your acne wasn't sever enough for the drug itself. To explain further, accutane is meant for people with sever acne or mild acne with a few cysts, pustles and papules. If you're on the drug without any of these symptoms, accutane will not help you and you will be right back where you started.

Accutane is a serious drug and even though it is said that the pill does work long after you're through with it, you need to consitantly take a follow up pill to help control it furthur. If you don't your acne has a better chance of returning. I have a friend that went on accutane and he to has had a few pimples come back, Nothing sever compared to what it was but they're there.

I myself wanted to go on the drug but the doctor said I didn't need it because my condition was not even a lvl 1 (I was listed as a .5) I had no papules, cysts, or pustles and basically my pimples where due to large hair follicles which are being treated and have gotten alot better.

I would recommend seeing an acne specialist as soon as possible and discuss your condition. I'm sure you'll be cured.
