One dr. tells me its roseacia and another tells me that its acne or both. Really pissn me off.

Dear Fellow Acne Sufferer,

About a year ago I requested Accutane to treat what is considered to be non-inflamed mild/moderate acne. My request was turned down and I was sent home with Retin-a Micro...which after a horrible outbreak calmed things down for a while. But, then the acne came back worse.

So, five months ago I made a similar request, trying to be a bit more persuasive, and was again turned down and grudgingly persuaded to give other options a try. So I left with Tazorac and Doxycycline. Unlike the Retin-a micro, with this potentially more potent 1-2 punch, after an initial improvement I only saw my condition worsen to the point were I felt I needed a real solution.

Yesterday, I saw the dermatologist again and explained to him that I was tired of running the retinoid/antibiotic gamit, explaining to him that I was aware of the side effects of Accutane, but also realized that with close monitoring of my blood through monthly tests I understood that the risks could be mitigitated.

He suggested switching my antibiotic, I was persistent.

I further explained that my acne was causing me to feel depression and social anxiety. In order to drive this point home I explained to him that I had made a previous visit to the psychiatric wing to discuss my displeasure with the dermatology department's unwillingness to provide me with the one medication that I felt could alleviate my distress, and how this combined with my acne had me feeling frustrated and hopeless.

After all this he finally capitulated and agreed to put me on Accutane. Pending blood tests I will start it on Monday or Tuesday.

I don't know what else you have tried as far as acne meds go but I am nearly positive that you have run a similar gamut as myself. From your picture I can see that my acne is similar to yours and very persistent, I wish you the best in your battle against it.

Devise a good argument, go in to your derm and make your case. It sucks that we have to act like lawyers to get our ance treated but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
