Day 83

I'd like to know what's going on.... again.

*Sigh*

It hurts. Really bad. Literally.

Yes, I am a fighter, but I'm not sure how much more fighting I can do.

it will pass, just hang in there and dont touch anything! i kept breaking out too but then i switched to just cetaphil wash and left it alone....got MUCH better....do you think maybe its just hormonal? sometimes around the mouth is caused by hormones...give your bc another month or 2 to see if that helps. Hang in there, your forehead and cheeks look great!

Almay - Could DEFINATELY be hormonal and probably is. I'm just started my second pack of birth control pills about a week ago. I'm currently using cetaphil wash... can you reccommend a moisturizer? I'm not using the one that is listed in my regimen anymore, I'm using a medicated one that is supposed to help scarring etc. But anyway, I don't have a ton of money so do you know of any that work well but are still pretty inexpensive? Thanks =)

Fuman - I guess my mom told me that that wasn't a cold sore.. oh well. I'm on spring break right now so I can't see how I could be overstressed, hehe. Thanks though.

      Thanks KJ.

I have the same hormonal issues. It's like clock work everytime of the month. I know it's insanely frusterating, but hang in there! Perhaps this won't help, but I log in everyday just to see yours and celebrations progress, it really keeps me going. Feel proud knowing you are helping others.

Hey! Yep i recommend Eucerin ( its the smaller bottle with a pink top and is spf 30) its reallllly nice and doesnt make me break out and its about $9 ... they also have larger bottles of regular moisturizer ( no spf ) for about $10 that last forever. Its really good stuff and i highly recommend it...the smaller one is harder to find but go to a good drug store and they should have it . Good luck!

I bet the BCPs will kill off the painful hormonal acne within a few months. Gosh, though, look how little active acne you have now! The left side of your face in particular looks amazing, just look at all that clear skin! We both get those same painful lip zits that aren't cold sores and are easy to hide but hurt like a bitch. I think mine might be tied to the lip products I use. Have you looked at the ingredients in any balms or lipsticks you use regularly? I suspect there's something in one of those giving you a hard time. I haven't gotten any of those goddamn lip zits in a while and I've been using Chapstick Lip Moisturizers in vanilla mint. I think putting BP all the way up to my mouth certainly helps too, but definitely check ingredients in your chapsticks and such.

Sola, thank you very much for your kind words. Usually I'd get one monster zit at that time of the month, so this is really hard to deal with.. especially since it ended about a week ago.

Almay, I'll definately check it out, thank you so much!

and Cool, I think I may actually be getting these from the BCP. But, I suspect they will clear up within about 2 months also. I think the pills are what is throwing it out of whack. I don't currently use any lip balms, lip sticks, or lip glosses, so I know it can't be that. And I definately apply BP all over my face, not just in my problem areas. I wish I got your type of lip zits, because mine are definately NOT easy to hide. Mine usually get extremely dry also which makes them sooo crusty. Okay yeah, enough sick talk. =) Thank you.

      Hey Star

I'm new to the site and I've been looking at your progress. I must say your perserverence is very admirable. I've dealt with this crap for 13 years and tried every treatment under the sun (including accutane twice which left me REALLY sick and only had short term effects). I noticed that you are taking Ortho Tri Cyclin which I have tried before. I was on it for about a year and my acne was never worse. I switched to Diane-35 which has been the most effective treatment I have tried (better than accutane) but it took about 8 months to see the full effects. If you live in the U.S. you won't be able to get it (unless you can get it from an on line Canadian pharmacy), but there is a pill called Yasmin that is also VERY effective for acne. Both of these pills are the only form of birth control that directly block androgens and are therefore the best for acne. I've also found I have to be really careful with what I put on my skin becasue even products that say oil fee and non-comedogenic can actually be comedogenic because there is no law regulating this. I found a site called www.zerozits.com and they have a list of comedogenic ingredients (listed under articles, 'become an acne detective'). I found the best cleanser to be Spectro Jel (unscented for sensitive skin). The best moistuizer I have tried (for not causing zits) is Neutrogena oil free moisturizer. I've also never had much luck with BP (although I know many have). I prefer Sulfacet-R lotion with erythormycin added (optional). You don't have to go to a derm to get this stuff you can get a prescription from a regular doctor. I know everyones acne is different but I hope that this is of some help to you. Best of luck!

Star~Please don't get down about this new problem area. It probably is related to your BCP as acne around the mouth is known to be related to hormones. The rest of your face, chest, neck look incredibly incredible. Do a reality check by comparing yourself to photos from a month ago, and you shall see that you are beating this thing into subordination.

Good advice, I am in Canada (Toronto) and I am using Diane 35. Although I still break out here and there, it is the only pill I have used that has been consistant in improving my skin. It is true that you have to be on it for 6-8 months to see major improvement, I did find once I went off it my skin when back to its tempermental self. Diane is more expensive than the other pills, about 80$ Canadian for 3 months, so if you don't have a drug plan it can be a little pricer, but I believe it's worth every penny. I'm going to check out that zerozits website, sounds interesting.

Hey! Two new people in one day...how ironical ^^

Even though you get the occasional ugly painful breakouts (oyy do I know about those!) your skin is overall looking MAGNIFICENT since you started the regimen: there's next to NO redness/rash looking crap...just the dots...soo much easier to hide ><

And even more ironical...lol I haven't tried the Ortho Birth control....but I WAS on the Yasmin for about two years and it did WONDERS for my skin, cleared it right up...took a few months, but the results stayed once I got them. Unfortunately went off it for about 9 months b/c of insurance/financial reasons and the acne came back worse than ever....just got back on it this past week....desperately hoping it'll work it's magic again!

ANYWAY lol sorry to rant, but it's another possible option...that ISNT accutane, :)

Keep up the great work hun!

Still looks good! Better than when you started, right? I guess it is hormonal but stick with it... the acne will die someday. I am fighting with scars but at least the bumps are gone. Gotta smile about something. Cheer up... you still look great!

      Hey Star,

You're doing so well, so many people on this site admire your courage and determination, me for one.

Whatever marks on your skin, you are beautiful both inside and out, it's hard to notice the marks because your eyes take the focus right to them.

You are having your ups and downs, and I am sure in a few weeks you'll notice less and less breakouts, stick with it and remember on those bad days, you're still beautiful and nobody or nothing can ever take that away from you.
