I used to have really bad acne ..

someone I know recommended I use Spectro Jel, and I lost all the acne, and just get the odd pimple here and there.

Spectro Jel is available in Canada .. I believe it's $12-$15 for a bottle. I did a search for the product on here and noticed that barely anyone knew about it and used it (maybe because you only get it in Canada - as far as I know).

I suggest you guys give it a try.

I just had the worst experience with Spectro Jel. My skin had been looking pretty good for a while. A few minor zits in various places and a couple of cysts on my chin but nothing make-up couldn't make better. For some reason I decided to try a different face wash a couple of weeks ago to see if anything would work better than my usual (Neutrogena). BIG MISTAKE! I tried Spectro and after a few days I started breaking out pretty bad but I decided that my skin might just need time to get used to it. Well, it has been two weeks and my forehead is now completely covered with small bumps and a few of them have formed into tiny whiteheads. I also have a lot of blackheads and I am also breaking out worse than usual around my jawline and cheeks (a spot where I hardly ever get acne). Nothing else in my regimen has changed and it hasn't been 'that time of the month' so I know it must be the Spectro. Today I just had enough and finally bought my usual cleanser. I will never use Spectro again.... I don't think anything else has ever had this bad of an effect on my face. Even Shoppers Drug Mart brand acne wash is better than this stuff.

you should not have had a reaction to the spectro gel for sensitive skin...its what they use in hospitals!!!!

i would actually see a doctor over that as it could mean you're allergic to something that could later be a problem if you ever need medical treatement as thats usually what they use as a gental cleanser to wash their hands before they exam anyone as it isn't drying but kills the bacteria.

seriously it is very very odd to have a reaction..are you SURE it was spector jel and not spectro derm? the sensitive skin one is unsented..maybe you got the sented one and are having problems with the perfume?

i ADORE my spectro gel and wouldn't give it up for the world. i wouldn't say it takes acne away but it cleans my skin really well so my meds work better and it really evens out the skin tone

also it could be that you're just sensitive to change. sometimes when you change products it can take a few days for your body to adjust. neutrogena has a lot of chemicals spectro jel doesn't. i know when i'm off my topicals for a a few days i'll break out as sort of a backlash from not having the strong treatment.

i would get it checked out tho. it is very odd.

Tired of Waiting: You're skin looks great! How long have you been on your regimen? and what are your thoughts on spironolactone?

thanks eloise :) i've been on it now since about december. i was worried about the side effects but there were none at all!

my regimen has changed over the years but has been fairly consistent for the last year now. i ADORE benzamycin and the minocycline helps me to handle the breakouts so they're small when they happen and heal faster.

actually tho i think i owe the majority of the skin clearing to the hydrozyzine (antihistamine like benadryl only perscription so a bit stronger) it specifically targets skin sensitivty and allergies and i think it makes me less prone to environmental stresses and environments that can hurt my skin and irritate it to the point of breaking out.

i also try to take a break from my night regimen (minus the pills) to give my skin a chance to relax every now and again. i find it helps things heal faster and gets rid or red marks in a week or less!

ohh. and i try to balance everything i do. for example if i eat something greasy i drink green tea to help with the cleansing so i don't get overwhelmed by the sugar and have an insulin spike.

my rule is the 50/50 while i know diet for me doesn't directly cause anything i try to eat something very healthy and cleansing (lots of water for eg.) for anything junky i eat. it also helps my mood

again, i try to stay happy and alert and it helps TONS as does nice hot showers to soothe and steam my skin, then i stand under ice cold water. it feels WONDERFUL

The person who started this thread is probably just a salesman for spectro jel. Maybe not, but its kind of obvious to me. I wouldnt recommend listening to this guy (or girl) if i were you. Just my opinion take it or leave it.
