hi, i know most scars can't be improved upon, but what about raised scars? i have a scar on my cheek that is raised and was wondering if i had that layer of skin taken off around the scar would the new skin underneath be normal tissue instead of scar tissue. and would there be no sign that i had a scar there after surgey.

if u had it cut out it would heal flat. If u tried to just cut off layers from it until it was even w the surrounding skin it would heal up raised again.

Best solution is a cortisone injection. It's been pretty effective for most on this board. I have a raised scar and peeling off layers of skin seemed like it helped, but the scar would always eventually grow back. A derm gave me a cortisone injection that improved it a tiny bit, though it's still visible. Still, that's probably the best way to go at it. I don't think scar tissue ever completely heals into skin tissue. You can make it flatter but it'll still be a scar.

thanks for the answers. How much does it cost to have the scar cut out, is it dependent on the size of it and what was the recovery time.

very true, about the scar still being there. My scars were red and raised and after 4 beam treatments there pretty flat and over a year and half since I got them from a tca peel. The scars are still obvious because they have no hair and no poors and the pigment is a hint off (light). I will be trying dermabrasion to break up the hard scars now to hopfully to smooth the demarcation lines of the scar and normal skin..
