Happy Holidays and Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Hope you are keeping warm Bobbi!!

As for my skin....

It's been good considering I haven't had any serious acne. I had one pastule [probably my own doing b/c I wouldn't leave it alone] that's going away and have another small blemish that hasn't made up it's mind of what to do. It's just sittin' there looking pretty. It's my PMS week too, so my skin has been acting up a little. I have some red bumps on my forehead, but no biggie. My skin isn't as oily as it was the first weeks off of spiro, now it's a little more combination.

RAM has been doing well for my hyperpigmentation, but I honestly think I'm just going to have to learn with my boxcar and rolling scars. I've heard good stories about Fraxel, but I don't think I would want to wait about a year for my face to return to its normal pigment - which is the way I understand it. But, hey anyone out there reading: I would like to hear about any Fraxel stories or anything for indented scarring. Please please please!

Hi, how were your holidays? Sorry you've got a few breakouts but it sounds like you've got it all under control. Glad the hyperpigmentation is going away sorry about the othre scars. It might just take more time with them. I don't know anything about Fraxel but hey I'm really bored so maybe I'll do some research for you :lol:Fraxel.com there are real patient stories and a photo gallery HTH :)

Hey Bobbi

I'm new here but have been reading all about you and have similar issues!!!

I've always had bad skin, but found birth control pill DIANE35 (Brenda35) brilliant. Was on it for 3 years and probably only ever had 1 pimple on my whole body at any one time. It was amazing how great it is to have no pimples. But now we are trying for a baby (nobody knows yet) and I can't take it anymore (or most other treatments either). My pimples are back...grr.

What are you planning to do if/when you have babies??

HEY!! I've been on board but haven't been visiting my journal. Same ole, same ole. My peeling is getting a little worse, but I'm thinking it's the RAM and the heater conjuring up together! I was applying RAM every other night, but stopped in fear of acne reappearing. Plus, I saw a seriously slight improvement on my pockmarks so I didn't want to slow down that progress either. I know I'm so paranoid.

T Jay, I'm glad my entries can relate to you. It's always so nice to know that you are not alone. Your Q is so interesting b/c I really don't have a plan yet. I'm hoping that by the time I get pregnant (in about 7-10 years or so), my skin will be on the downside of the crazy rollercoaster we call acne. I know that spironolactone would be out of the question, and I'm not sure about retinoids during pregnancy either. I would recommend looking up the JESSFILIATION pin, or talk to my greatest friend on this board BOBBI. Y'all two are on the same boat, and she's a really sweet girl. Tell her I sent you!

Much love,

Eloise

P.S. I've scheduled my first facial ever for next week and I'll tell y'all how it went.

Hey girl :)

That peeling is what will get rid of those pockmarks so unfortunatly it's a necessary evil  Don't blame you for being paranoid though and peeling skin is no fun.

I can't wait to hear about your facial. I hope it goes great for you.

How is school going?

T Jay- I'm sure Eloise won't mind me hijacking her log for a minute incase you come back to see if I replied here.

It is frustrating knowing there are so many things you can't use while trying and during pregnancy and breast feeding if you so choose. Products that are supposedly safe (I've researched this a little bit) are glycolic acid, salycilic acid 2% or less, BP, and I believe sulfer. I use a lot of Mario Badescu products and they say all their stuff is safe for pregnant women.

You can check out my log to see what I have been using. However my signature is incorrect as I have't been using the Green Cream or Retin A obviously. My "plan" is to be one of those pregnant woman with glowing clear skin ;) HTH and good luck.

Hey Bobbi

Thanks for the response. I have been checking, but didn't realise the response was on the next page (d'oh).

I will try the stuff that you mention (if it's available here in Australia)

I wont hijack Eloise's log any more & will visit yours!! I will try to get there.....

Hey!!

I haven't checked in for a while so let me tell you how my facial went:

I got a moisturizing facial with little exfoliation to avoid any irritation due to regular Retin A Micro use. It was so awesome and wonderful. They put this contraption that shoots out steam in front of your face to open up your pores. A friend of mine getting her aesthitician's license agreed to give me this great experience for free.....I owe her big. She lathered me up with top notch oils my dry skin was dying for. I recently had two dry patches on face (under my nose and under my lower lip, but after my visit they were gone!! It was so refreshing and relaxing. I was a little paranoid I'd break out, but I really didn't. I think my skin was thankful :) I asked about what my options were as far as chemical peels to speed up the process of healing, and she said she'd look into it since I use RAM.

Has anyone here heard of peels having adverse effects on RAM users?

How's it going Bobbi? I'll be giving your log a visit.

Oh yea;

as for the hijacking.....

y'all can hijack anytime you want! The more the merrier!!!!

About a week ago my skin went crazy and I woke up with 3 pimples. two have subsided, but there's this one that just won't go away. I'm going to a wedding next week and I think it would be nice to have it gone by then. But even so, I am so grateful not to have to worry about acne on a daily basis like I used to. Except whenever I do get acne, I get a tad weirded out and get really paranoid that it's just going to start all over again. I just have to stay positive.

As for my acne scarring:

Hyperpigmentation has gotten a little better, but the scars are driving me madd. I don't know what to do for them. Everything I read seems too harsh for my taste....not to mention expensive. I guess I'll just keep on looking.

Hey guys!

I'm going to the dermatologist tomorrow b/c I have some concerns. I've been breaking out lately with small superficial zits and one major lesion, and I think it may be my fault. I began using RAM sparingly b/c of the winter. Then, about a 3 weeks ago I began using grapeseed oil instead of Vitamin E oil on my face. Now, I'm breaking out with superficial pimples. Another odd thing, I sometimes feel as if though a nodular zit is going to appear b/c the area hurts like a bruise; then it goes away. I'm getting a little paranoid. I hope the answer to all this is due to my grapeseed oil. It does work wonders for dryness, but definitely not worth more acne. I'll keep y'all posted.

So I went to the derm's office, and he said I should stop using grapeseed oil. He said grapeseed oil is for people who never break out. He also said that b/c it was practically summer weather down here in Texas I shouldn't be getting dryness so severely. he did however, suggest I use hydrocortisone 1% for my really dry patches of skin mainly around the nose area. It works like a charm, but its not a cure, just helps with dryness for about a day. So if anyone would like to try it, you should use it daily to achieve results.

I still break out here and there, but never cystic  . Thank you god! The derm also checked my pits and hyperpigmentation. I'm glad to say my hyperpigmentation is 75% gone!!! My scars aren't filling in though, but that's okay, so long as I dont get anymore real acne. I'll keep on trying!

I'm here today on so-so news.

good news first: I got accepted to grad school and will strart in the fall!!

The bad news is this presents lots of problems: time and money.

So I will be having to change my regimen to a monetarily friendly one....Clinique soap for oily skin was not doing me anymore good anyway. I have about 6 days not using it anymore. I'll be sure to update my sig....I'll just do that now....

to be continued.

I decided to cut and paste my old sig to avoid crossing everything out. That would be a bit silly looking. tee hee. I want to save it in my log though for reference.

Wow! I hadn't realized how less fussy my new regimen is compared to my old one. My skin was doing well with that old regimen, but the truth is my skin type has changed. I'm beginning to suspect that my skin will be changing with the seasons...bugger. People always blame the weather for everything. Troubling skin is another thing to put on that list. Having the same regimen year round is no longer an option for me. :boohoo:

My skin used to be oily, but now it's more sensitive than oily, and products designed for oily to combo skin were seriously doing me a disservice. I've been in denial for about 2 months, but it's time to get real.

I think the smart choice for me right now is to stick with things marked for sensitive skin. One way I finally realized that my skin had changed [from "oily"] is when I'd get out of the shower with my face feeling extremely tight. That used to never happen with my oily skin. Lately, my skin looks flushed esp. by using my old regimen.

I have now switched to Eucerin redness relief cleanser and it is working well for me so far. I don't have that tight feeling on my face when I get out of the shower anymore.

I'm going to be switching out my SPF soon too...that's also for oily skin......NO THANKS!

I'll keep y'all posted.

Hello my friend:) long time no talk. I'm sorry to hear you were having some issues with your skin again. It sounds like you might have figured it all out. I can relate to skin changing with the seasons....mine is dry and oily right now :eh: of there might be other reasons for that too;)

Bobbi - Is there something that you are not telling me?

How's your skin doin' on Retin-A Micro? Keep with it girl!

As for my skin. It's been doing better with Eurecin products I am now using. I'm using a different moisturizer as well. Clinique is not for me right now. I'll be sure to update my sig. This moisturizer is pretty awesome. I make sure to have my skin damp before I apply to lock that moisture in. I do however, have a small misfortune on my lower left jaw. But, really, no big deal aside from the slight pain and sensitivity to it.

Keep y'all posted.

Well, I'm changing my regimen again!

I've been kind of in limbo with my routine. I think I may be overdoing it a little. My face seems to have no skin barrier to it whatsoever. So, I'm going to cut down on some stuff. I've been getting milia at my acne prone site possibly due to my overdoing. I want to get those little suckers extracted, but I have no money for a facial. :boohoo:

Instead of putting RAM all over my face everyday, I will be doing this every other day. During my off RAM days, I will be using Eucering Redness Relief night creme. I may look into their Q10 creme as well later on when i have money. Also, I will not be using my face brush in the morning; only at night. Once I get my hands on an exfoliate, I'm going to use my face brush only when I get the flakies. I also am incorporating NIVEA Moisturizing Toner morning and night....I've decideded to give it a chance.

OLD ROUTINE:

Morning:

Eucerin with facial brush

Eucerin Extra Protection SPF 30

Bare Minerals in Fairly Light

Evening:

Eucerin with facial brush

Hydrocortisone on dry patches

RAM all over face

Spot treat red marks with pure Vitamin E oil

Ortho-Cyclen pill

We'll give this new regimen about a month or two.

There.

I finally did it.

I finally ordered Paula's Choice BHA Lotion 1% online. This acne problem is getting to be really expensive. I am so broke, and the month isn't even half over yet; [us teachers get paid once every month.] But, I'm hopeful that this will help fill in the gap in my regimen.

Later, I'll tell y'all about my facial experience yesterday (Wed.).

Also, I've been noticing that I've been getting moodier than usual during PMS. I'm thinking of switching to Yasmin. It's supposedly the best for mood swings. It costs the same as Ortho anyway under my insurance.

Old habits die hard: I will be using my face brush everyday morning & night, but just very lightly b/c I don't want to lose my skin's protective barrier; A big nono. :naughty:

Status:

2 lesions [one on each side] extracted....professionally of course. I personally don't pick.

SPURS rock!!!

My face is finally clear of active inflammatory acne after having 4 months of active acne. I do however, have some milia going on which I'm hoping will be zapped with Paula's Choice and not overdoing the RAM. Milia can easily turn ugly...inflammatory ugly. My BHA from Paula's Choice hasn't come in yet and it feels like time is going Oh so slow for it to get here. I've spoken to my mom about it and a little to my boyfriend and I've come to the conclusion that if my acne does not clear up with Yasmin and Paula's Choice, i will be setting things in motion for Accutane. I just want to make sure that i've tried everything possible first...which, I personally think I have except for a BHA. Although I get only a few lesions a month now, almost all of them leave pits and that's not good. If they didn't leave pits I think I wouldn't take my spots this seriously and see it more of a nuasance than anything, but these pockmarks are going to be on my face forever. My hyperpigmentation takes a long time to heal too...like literally - I still see redness from last year's lesions. Hyperpigmentation doesn't worry me that much - just those darn pothole scars!!

I went to get a facial last Wednesday. It felt so good. Stacy seems to be really nice, but is a bit pushy with her line. It's all natural stuff which sounds great, but it is so expensive. Plus, I've tried the holistic route before I became an acne.org member and it didn't work out. I think she is new into the business but supposedly had great training. Don't know yet if I'll go back though. She gave me a hydroquonine facial and did a few extractions. She was able to extract two of my inflammatory lesions, but worked only to release some pressure. She said both lesions were like 3 in one....gross. A couple of days after the facial I noticed that those two lesions looked like pimples all over again...inflamed and all. So needless to say, I was pretty upset. Call me ignorant with facials (this was my first extraction experience), but I thought extractions were supposed to get all that crap out the first time around. Is that wrong? As a result, I extracted them myself. I know - that's bad, but the damage was done so I finished it off. teehee.

So for all those who are thinking about extractions: Either A)get someone really experienced, B)go to your dermy and get some cortisone shots instead. I prefer the latter myself. In opinion, cortisone shots are less traumatic to my skin.

I hope Paula's Choice works. I'm going to give this new upcoming regimen until the end of September or so to decide if I will venture of to tane world. It will have Paula's Choice BHA 1% perhaps accompanied by a new BC, Yasmin. My mood has sucked lately.

Skin Status:

no active lesions

hyperpigmentation...of course esp. those two last lesions

milia on right side of my face

I'm trying to stay positive. You just have to.

Hi -

Sorry to hear that you are still having ongoing problems. I hope the PC BHAs work for you!! As far as your experience with the facialist and the extractions, I think it is important to get extractions from someone who really knows about acne. They shouldn't try too hard to extract deep, inflamed pimples - they can do more harm than good sometimes. I know if my spots don't extract pretty easily, my esthetician doesn't try to force them out (she can get most of them, its just the occasional deeper spots that won't come out). With your spots, she probably got some of the pus and fluid out, so that temporarily relieved the pressure, but she probably didn't get the core of the zits out, so they just got re-inflamed again.

And do stay positive!!!!

AAAwwww....thanks for your support willow...good advice too.

I really needed that; I do have to stay positive.

Now especially since I have discovered that what lesion I thought was "finished off" is not ready to say "good-bye" just yet; The lesion that was drained twice has decided to pop out with two new ones, get this.....

ON THE SAME SPOT! arrg!

I think I might call my dermy for an appt. to zap em with cortisone b/c this is getting pretty ridiculous!

Paula! Oh Paula! where are you?! I need my BHA fast!!!!

I'll hang in there!

Skin Status:

milia

two new spots on the same old spot on the right side

Hi there Eloise!

I wish you luck with the Paula's Choice BHA. I love mine! My skin is very oily and I had quite a few persistent breakouts so I went with the 2% BHA liquid. So far, so good.

Thanks for creating a log of your experiences!

Wow - have you thought about accutane before this? Did the derm say why he thought this was a good option for you at this point?
