So the procedure wasn't that long, but when they gave me a mirror to look like 10 inches from my face, it just shattered my confidence. Their office is literally blinding from the florescent lights, and ya'll know how those make you look; shitty magnified by 10000x. Plus, I'm 20 and just getting this hunk of junk in my mouth now. I look like I'm 16 again...especially with some acne. Eating blows too because food always gets stuck. Two more years of this BS. Fuck!

They get annoying at first, but you get used to them. I had two sessions of braces as a kid, for a total of like 5-6 years, and girls thought I looked cute in them. There are other alternatives besides braces like invislines trays and stuff, why didn't you opted for something else?

I don't even know. I just went along with whatever... the traditional route I guess.

Can you still use electric tooth brushes?

braces suck, i had them a year ago well after everyone else had had their's taken off. anyway they're worth it because what's two years in the grand scheme of things?

combine a year of braces and whitestrips and i have the most perfect teeth i've ever seen.

this is a little early but MAKE SURE YOU WEAR YOUR RETAINERS when you get them, yeah they're dorky and uncomfortable but otherwise your teeth will shift. at least wear it at night and when you're bumming around the house.

I have no clue wether you can use an electric toothbrush or not, call up your orthodontist.

I regret not wearing my retainers, I have one tooth thats still kinda out of place which drives my mother crazy...she's really anal about our teeths. Everyone in my family had braces, wether minor or not, my pops asked my mom how come he couldn't get braces too, she said, "You're old and your teeth are ugly, it doesn't really matters."

Besides retainers, one of my sister has a strip of metal wire glued into her inner lower row, its permanent and her teeth are straight as hell.

O yeah....have you guys seen some of the porn movies, I mean with the cute girls with braces...super HOT!

i kept using my sonicare, it's soo much easier and more effective than a manual toothbrush. just go gently or else you'll be at the orthodontist every week with broken brackets lol

I had braces, then got invisalign (i have em now) and now i'm going back to braces in a couple of months if the invisalign doesnt work. Braces imo work faster than invisalign..and i want my teeth straightened fast!!

Too bad they can't put the sockets on the inner side or your teeth...

And they should invent mini sonicares for easy cleaning after you eat.

Not everyone's a candidate for Invisalign, and not every dentist/orthodontist offers it.

I have mandibular asymmetry and if I want surgery to fix it I need braces for 6 months, and invisalign wont do it. I've decided not to get the surgery though, and just think of my asymmetry as characteristic :)

No statute of limitations...my mom had them in her 40's.

the can, but the problem is that it's much harder to make sure they're in the right place [more fiddly since the orthodontist cant really see what he's doing] and they're really hard to clean. i've never seen anyone with them [then again, they're not very noticable..] but i remember my ortho saying somethign about them.

No... it isn't as bad as when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I had dry sockets too. :doubt:

I'm getting Invisaline in a few weeks!!!!!!!!!!!

there goes 5 or 6 thousand

My braces cost just as much. I'm too old to be covered on my parent's insurance policy. double :doubt: :doubt:

im 19 and got braces about 4 months back. I went with the clear ceramic braces but the wire is still silver. You cant tell im wearing braces from 5 feet away. My teeth are getting straight really quick--cant wait to get these off. Also my ortho gave me a sonicare electric toothbrush saying that they do a great job cleaning around braces....so yea, use an electric pulsating brush, NOT the kinds that rotate.

I had braces when I was about 12, which is way different than 20..! but I did want to let you know is that you shouldn't feel self conscious about them. I don't know about other people, but seeing braces on others does't really bother me. Of course I notice it, but I'm not like "DAMN, BRACES?!" I knew this dude who got braces when he was like 21, he still looked handsome.

I got my braces removed about 8 months ago, trust me it's worth all the pain and agony. I know u may feel like u look like shit while wearing ur braces but once those suckers come out, u won't stop smiling. One of the best decision I've ever made was to get my teeth fixed with braces. It improved my looks by like 50%.
