Does anyone find going to the derm bare-faced...

Recommended Posts

To all the ladies out there, you know how hard it is to leave the house without makeup when you have skin issues. Doesn't it seem like when you're in the derm's waiting room, hiding you face behind a year-old copy of People, that no one else there has acne? Could it be that absolutely everyone there has strange-looking moles or is looking for botox?

In all seriousness, how do you guys control the self loathing and general misery when you go to the derm? I'm so extreme, I'm terrified I'll get into an accident on the way to/from my appointment, because if that happens, I'll have to get out of my car!!

This post is coming from someone who's tried it all, including Accutane. I have an appointment next week for what's either a pimple-like rash or my acne coming back several months after a 6 month course. I thought my years of humiliation were over.

Should I drive to my derm like this? :ninja:

When I have bad break outs I loath going to dermy because of the reaction from other patients and sometimes I'm eager because I need an injection for the weekend.

I honeslty believe when a person with acne try so hard to avoid being noticed just make them more noticeable, sounds weird huh?

Say what, next time you're driving to your derm, pick me up, I'll bring some arsenals I have....you and I can storm up in the office like Jack Bauer, and you could be my side kick Chloe, we bust up the joint, get hold of the derm, ask him, "Whats the big idea?" We interrogate him till we get some real hard answers. I swear theres a conspiracy with the dermies....they don't want to cure, but to ease our acne. They're the terrorists, they have secret meetings every month with the pharmaceutical companies exploiting the situation. I know, O I know, tell me why my derm's office lights still on at such wee late ours, I'm telling you man, they're scheming.

Don't forget, I'm be Jack Bauer, I'll inflict pain on him till he gives up the secret, and you as Chloe, hold off the assistants and patients. Together, "We can do it, we must, for all humanity"

When I go to the derm. I always have some sheer liquid foundation on my face. My derm is cool, he doesn't care. It's a really sheer foundation so it doesn't cover much. I like it cause it evens out my skin .....from past acne break-outs. If I have any active pimples, or any other major skin issues, he can see it....

I'm not a lady, but:

At my derm, there is another specialist just opposite her door so patients wait in the same hall. However, the other one specialises in sexually transmitted diseases. So believe me, it's much less embarrassing to wait there with acne than with perfectly clear skin.

i'll never understand why you people feel embarassed going to the derm. that's the 1 place you should not be worried about your skin. it's a f'ing DERM. everyone in that waiting room has some type of skin problem.

They mean they also have to go there (and back) without make-up.

You and I have wondered the same thing. Whenever, I go to derm I always say to myself, "what the heck are these people waiting here for?" Because they do not have acne or any visible skin problems (as far as the face). So, it's kinda funny to see someone who has thought the same things as me. As, for wearing makeup or not wearing makeup to go to derm? Well, I don't wear any makeup besides lipstick or gloss...if I am going to derm I will wear a gloss on my lips...I wear nothing on my skin...I feel to much makeup on the skin is no good...plus, I try to be as natural as possible (it's just the way I think) I refuse to get used to makeup so much so that I can't leave my home without it...it's a dependency issue that I rather not have ...

I think there is an easter-holiday conspiracy at my school. I went away, started on Differin & Minocycline, and when I came back, *everyone* had clear skin! I'm not kidding. My friends who had previously been struggling with severe acne had nearly cleared up......its soo not fair. My mate went from severe to completely spot free over the hols, claims it was from 2.5% panoxyl! :| Not. Fair.

I go to the derm on the way to school, so I have to wear makeup. He shines this light and crap on me anyway, so he knows it sux nevertheless. However, one time, I did not have to go to school afterwards, so I just put on a tad of concealer. This was when he said I would probably have to go on Accutane to ever solve my problem.

Every time I go to the derm, there are like 3 kids with the worst cases of acne I've seen and like 2 old people who probably have skin cancer or psoriasis or something.

You could always wear makeup and then use a face wipe to take it off when you get there?

That's what I did...

Me too.. I went to the derm right after school (i was wearing makeup) and I just took it off in the car with some baby wipes that were hanging around..it's no big deal. I think that we make a bigger deal out of something that most people aren't even paying attention to..

This sounds stupid but I hate even driving there without make up like I feel like the people in other cars see me if I stop at a light that has two lanes I wear a hooded sweatshirt and try to hide...its funny when I think about it but it sucks at the same time. Evertime I go to the derm I never see anyone in there with acne all these girls the same age as me look perfect!!

I think people need to relax a little bit and just stop caring what other people think about how you look.

Even if you completely clear your acne you will go though life constantly nervous of how you look even with like 1 spot or anything.

The people who make fun of you are usually either,

A. Stupid

B. Insecure

So ignore them, they soon get the message.

Yes i know it's a very hard thing to ask / do.

Paul

I figured a lot of the other women on the boards would feel the same way I do. Fair or not, we've been able to hide somewhat behind make-up, whereas guys obviously can't (well, some try, I guess). Of course I realize that no one else gives a crap and that I'm just paranoid. Why should anyone else care what I have on my face? It's my problem. Still, I can't talk myself out of thinking people are noticing my skin at red lights, etc. Ridiculous, I know.

i dont think people really care, yes initally if they see you they'll be like oh that looks terrible, but AS IF they will remember it the next day or keep thinking about it, if i was with clear skin and saw someone with severe acne, ill probably just stare for a sec, and then forget all about, why would i keep it in my head, i have other things to worry about.
