Anyone here with results from retin-a have cysts?

Recommended Posts

Does Retin-a work for cystic acne or just regular acne. I only get cysts...about 2-3 per month, generally they'll last 2-3 weeks without a cortisone shot, my doc is recomending retin-a micro, but will it actually work?

I went to a dermo who gave me Retin-A for my cystic acne. My acne, while cystic, was mild when he gave me this prescription. After 6 weeks of Retin-A use, my acne was completely severe. The Retin-A initial breakout was terrible for me. So I switched dermos (due to insurance changes) and my new dermo told me that Retin-A will not clear up cystic acne. She put me on Tazorac, which is the most powerful retinoid, and I'm loving it so far. But we'll see.

Good luck!

I read on a dermatology website (www.acneguide.com) that Retin-A is for blackheads and whiteheads, so you probably shouldn't have been given it for cystic acne. Sounds like Tazorac is better for cystic acne.
