Hey all! well, lately my skin has been clearing up *knock on wood* but it looks just as bad/worse than it did when i was broken out. Its like.. flaky/dry/dull/UGLY but then its oily/gross. i want to make it smooth and even.. do i just need to exfoliate? any suggestions on what to use? ive tried a sugar scrub, aspirin, an electric toothbrush, baking soda, st.ives scrub.. and nothing seems to work.. anything would be greatly appreciated!!! :) -ashley

I like manual toothbrush exfoliating because I feel like I have a lot more control over the exfoliation than I would with any masks or scrubs, there are no chemicals that could screw with my BP and moisturizer, and it's not as aggressive as using an electric toothbrush. I take a plain toothbrush and gently brush off flakes wherever I deem necessary. You do have to be careful not to overdo it, like if you have a really flaky area, you might have to stop before all the flakes are gone or else you will have a big nasty raw patch on your face. The manual toothbrush exfoliation has definitely helped with my flakiness, and now I'm pretty happy with the texture of my skin. I do it very gently before I wash my face morning and night, but you could do it less often as you see fit. Anyway, just a suggestion.

I think all the exfoliation is overkill. Just use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer, and give it a little time. If it's been a week or so and your face still looks dull, try using Alpha Hydrox oil-free formula at night for awhile.

I agree with noether, give it time and just cleanse/moisturizer, its possible to do overkill on your skin and cause it to get worse, so stick to the basics and be patient :)
