accutane has destroyed lifes

plz before taking accutane do some research and ask ur doctors about the possiblity of LATENT sideffects. most of the sideffects u develop while on accutane go away once u stop. but a small group (1-5%) get hit with latent sideffects that can destroyed the rest of ur life. four groups of people are more prone to these latent sideffects:

-people who take behind 1mg/kg/day or behind 120 mg/kg cumulative dosage

-people who take this drug in their teens while still growing and developing

-people who take it more than once

-people who have a family history of certain genetic disease ( such as bone/cartilage conditions)

specifically ask ur doctor about accutanes LATENT sideffects

You talk about these side effects but what are they? I also asked my doctor about any long term affects and he never mentioned these. Also you talk about side effects being a new occurance but there is not one drug with perhaps the exception of some statins that don't have side effects. For example even Aspirin has loads of side effects and if it wasn't around before the tight medical restrictions it would not have been allowed to be licened to be sold due to its serious GIT affects like stomach ulcers.

The side effects of Roaccutane are blown way out of proportion. Going on accutane was the best thing I ever did and I didn't get hardly any side effects and my skin is so clear now.

As other have said, could you give detail on what latent effects could occur?

Ive pretty much sat down and read the leaflet that comes in the box with the pills, and even googled up the conditions (quite a few) that are possible, but not mandatory (frightening once you see what some of them do).

Touch wood, ive not expereinced anything severe so far, and im hoping that will be the same for the second course.

Do these people think we live in a cave? Good thing we have them to bring all the side effects to our attention!

Every medication has side effects (tylenol, birth control pills). You do the research and weigh the risks/side effects with the possible positive outcome (clear skin). I'm a registered nurse....I did tons of research and decided to take the accutane. It was the best thing have done...I wish I would have done it sooner. I started with cystic acne when I was 26...started Differin and doxycycline....it improved alot but was still pretty bad. I settled for that for 5 years. I went back to new derm...said it wasn't good enough. Tried minocycline and retin a...still not good enough. Geeze....Im 32 i shouldn't still have zits. He said the only think that would drastically/completly cure me was accutane. He sent me home with 1 month to research and think about it. I'm 4 1/2 months into it......my skin has been completely clear since 2nd month. I am totally shocked at how good my skin looks. I wish i would have done it sooner...I wouldn't of had to spend those years breaking out. I've had NO side effects!!!

Guest Tenshi

that's like my friend she thinks she knows everything just because she took it years ago..she was on 20mg a day for 3 months (woohoo) and her acne came back but not as bad..nowadays she has just grown out of it. She keeps saying, it will ruin my back and just wait and see..and 40mg for 8 months it too much..blah blah..im like, dont worry about it..i think the derm knows what he is doing.. it's because of all this talk i put it off for so long, but now i realised all i got from it was some dry lips..and of course, clear skin..no problems here.

there are two groups of people:

people who take it with no sideffects and deny that this drug could be possibly evil

and

people who take it and their health goes downhill afterwards and curse the drug for the rest of their lifes

i was really cocky when i took accutane ( 1 year ago). i was also a denier till i woke up one morning 6 months after my treatment and heard my shoulder making a popping sound. i did not think much of it. now six months later i cant even lift a simple grocery bag. every single joint in my body hurts and makes creaking/popping sound. my mouth/eyes/throat are as dry as hell and i have chest pain too.

trust me having cystic acne is not as bad as being 23 years old but with a body of a 80 year old.

victimized there are 2 group of people:

1. people who take it with no chronic sideffect and consider the drug to be a angel

and

2. people who take it, develop CHRONIC sideffects, and ask themselves: " what in heavens name did i

do to my body." and realize that there are worse things than acne

no i dont think u live in a cave; but i believe that most of u are not warned enough about LATENT/CHRONIC sideffects of accutane, just like myself before taking accutane. I wished i had gone to a more conservative doctor who would have atleast put me on a lower dosage.

about 1-5% of you who compare accutane to aspirin will unfortunately learn how different and powerful accutane is once its too late.

you do realize people sign consent forms for all the possible side effects such as the latent stuff you mentioned..........

you'd think if this was such a big problem there'd be a bigger hoopla around this

i was on accutane three times...im' 120 pounds, male..first time was 50mg, next two times were 60mg. clears up my acne great while i'm on it (then it comes back about a year later). as for side effects, i didn't experience anything other than the typical dryness. the doctor warned that there's a small chance of developing ankle spurs later on in life, so we'll see. other than that i didn't experience any LATENT (@#$%$#$%!!!!) side effects and it improved my "lifes" a lot more than some might say it ruined it.

there is no hoopla because like DHEA and many other drugs that have hormonal effects on ur body the most serious sideffects show up months/years after u taken the drug. this makes linking of the sideffects to drug much harder.

when u want accutane u go to a regular doctor or derm. when u get hit with the latent sideffects u go to a reumotologist, optomalagist, GI especialist. so doctors who prescribe are not the ones who end of seeing their patient suffering years down the road.

also the dosage matters alot. technically if u do a dosage based on the conservative guidlines ( 1 mg/kg/day--120 mg/kg total) the risks are drastically reduced.

I dont know why people need such high dosage, i had moderately high cystic acne and i went 30mg twice daily MAX after going from 10 for 2 months, then 20 for a few months, then ending in 30 for the rest and my skin cleared right up, theres no need to take 120mg, its not going to work any faster

the only thing that makes me scared of accutane, its that there are cases, when it maked acne more severe. damn, i wish it would be known how isotretinoin completly works, and which cases should avoid accutane
