When Did You Start Getting Acne?

Recommended Posts

I had severe acne from age 13 to 19 but after a course of Accutane I was perfectly clear from age 20 to 26. I am now 28 and my acne has come back with a vengence.

Age 21.

It started in September 2005 and lasted until December 2005. In those 3 months of AWFUL papules/pustules/nodules, I managed to leave behind some very bad scarring, that will probably be with me (to some degree) for the rest of my life.

The only things I can narrow down my breakout to would be switching from an SA cleanser to triclosan cleansers and others, starting to use moisturizer because that's what "I am supposed to be doing" because everyone says so LoL, and washing my face 4-5 times a day.

Currently I have very mild acne, and am starting to treat my scarring. YAY!

This is such a sad topic for me :wall: Since 11-12... had some periods when i was clear though, the longest was for about 8 months but after using a regimen ... but i just want to say that i hate ACNE! There were far too many times when i was on the verge of losing my mind for good and thinking of suicide *though i am almost sure i wasn't ever going to go through with it.* even clear i still am afraid of going outdoors and i am very nervous when i do.

Fortunatly i'm living the best part of my life ever, right now  We all deserve that.

i had very very mild acne as a teenager. It only started getting bad at age 20-21 but for some reason this past 6 months its been at its worst. have no idea why and its making me crazy!!!

i took accutane at age 22 and it didn't really work for me. Could it be that it only works well on teenage acne?

Wow. So it was 6 years being acne free?

16, I am now 19.

My face is almost clear, what I used was "Benzac Wash"( benzoile peroxide) and Eryfluid. These 2 had a lot effect at the beginning...

Erm since about 15 id say. Had it moderatly at high school, always around my mouth and on my forehead. Since 18, ive never had any problems with acne on my forehead. Now im 22, my acne has pretty much gone, hopefully. I get a few crop up, around my mouth every other day or so....

Hmmm. Kinda sounds like we have more or less two age groups here: The Puberty group and the late bloomers of around 18 or up...... I wonder why why why!!!!!!! LOL

Me, I got it right around beginning of puberty, so I was blessed with this nice problem since I was 11.

I really broke out badly at the age of 13-14, huge whiteheads all over my chin and forhead. A year later, it was pretty much smooth, no scares, no red marks, NOTHING. When I turned 16 I began to get some more pimples on my chin, nothing serious. Now, I'm 17 getting some pretty bad breakouts here and there. I'm waiting for my facial hair to grow in completely, cause I believe thats the cause of my acne.

My problems started at 22, im 32 now.

As a teenager I had the odd spot now and again but never anything to bother me at all, infact some of my friends commented how lucky I was that I always had clear skin. The time my problem kicked off was a period of high stress.

Im a belive that adult acne is completely different to teen acne and the two should be tacked differently. Adult acne seems to be caused by stress either down to work or a change in lifestyle, once the acne take hold then it gets worse as the worry and anxiety of the situation all add to the stress. This is why I believe that B5 seems to work better for adult acne as the B vitamins are depleted by stress.

Im pleased that this forum has a separate adult section, although many treatments are common for adults and teens, some things work better for one type more than the other. Cant believe that Dermatologists have not figured this out yet.

I had moderate acne as a teenager, then it improved when I was 19 and was mild enough to deal with. Then it suddenly exploded back when I was 23 and got worse and worse.

I am just nearing the end of a course of Roaccutane and don't have a single active zit, though I do have a lot of red marks left behind that I am hoping will fade soon! I'm 25 now.

When I was 12, now I'm 22, been on accutane twice and it's had it's ups and downs, but still didn't do what i wanted to

I got it when I was 13 (24 now and still suffering) and have been on roaccutane twice as well. So much for the 'cure'.

was it worse after the accutane

Actually, it cleared up for several years after the first dose I think. I was about 15 when I first took it. It cleared by the time I was 16 and didn't come back til I was about 21. Then I took it again when I was 22 and it came back when I was 24 so it didn't work as well the second time. I'm being referred to an acne specialist because me dermatologist doesn't want to prescribe it to me a third time. She says it's very rare that you need a third shot but reading everyone else's comments - I'm not so sure. I'll let you know how it goes if I ever get my appointment (3 month waiting list for everyone on the NHS...)

13 and I still have it at 24...when is it gonna stop? i dunno.

Same here - which treatments have you tried?

:)

It started at age 12 with cystic acne, huge boils & cysts...UGH! It continued pretty badly throughout my teenage years, on through my entire '20's, and is just now subsiding at 37. I've been on Accutane on 4 different ocassions, every antibiotic, every topical under the sun, and even tried Proactiv...I was desperate! Also every kind of OTC topical and soap you can think of. Now that it clear, it's left my self esteem and looks in pretty bad shape, lots of scarring...physically and emotionally. I don't know if you ever recover 100% from this
