"Even though tea tree oil has been suspected as an anti-bacterial agent for some time, A groundbreakings study was conducted in 1990 by I.B. Bassett, which compared tea tree oil to benzoyl peroxide in the treatment of acne. It was found that tea tree oil is as effective as a 5% benzoyl peroxide solution. It takes longer (6 weeks) for the tea tree oil to be as effective, but participants in the study reported none of the side effects associated with benzoyl peroxide, such as redness, skin irritation, or dry skin."

"Dr. Gan-Wong compared a green tea cream with 3% green tea, to a 4% benzoyl peroxide solution, and found that the results in treating acne where the same for both the tea and the peroxide. These results were recently presented at the 2003 annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology. "

love tto. i apply it diluted all over my face and then spot treat after my face has dried with the undiluted tto. it has been 3-4 weeks since i have started applying it all over & the last 2 weeks I have had only 2 pimples, and they were gone in a couple of days.

I used it for 2 weeks and had to stop because it broke me out horribly and iritated my face, my face was red and itchy and it was horrible. Took me over a month to get my breakouts back under control. Its very harsh and I didn't like it at all.

TTO is a good antispetic, it's also lipohilic. If you use a cleanser with TTO in high enough concentration you'll feel your pores tingle and it also anesthetizes and is an antiinflammatory. Long term use should be at 2-15% concentration. Just add drops to your cleanser in palm of hand and massage into skin for about a minute then rinse off. You will see it work week by week. For even better results use a 2% salicylic acid cleanser. If you use it undiluted your face will get irritated and dry out long term, start with 2-5% and only in a cleanser.

I think it's fine to use it as a spot treatment, but when I used it all over my face it broke me out. But I can apply it pure to a big pimple and it'll go down or even be nonexistant alot faster.

tto was great for me, hardly got any whiteheads or lumps while I used it, starting to break out again now though...

Also, I got a seriously nasty breakout under my chin around my neck, I never broke out there ever, which is weird, now they won't go away, at least they're harder to see.

I believe that I read that it was NOT a double-blind study. Plus, they used a 5% TTO gel. There is no such thing as a 5% TTO gel on the market. TTO has been somewhat helpful as a spot treatment, but not nearly effective as BP. If I apply it to my entire face the fumes make my eyes sting and water. It really isn't worth it to me.
