I am currently on a one month cycle of Bactrim (or the generic version, known as SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 TAB TEVA). I have been swallowing the pills with applesauce (instead of water) because the texture of the pill agitates my throat. My questions are:

1.) Will the drug still work when mixed with the applesauce?

2.) Has anyone had any positive results with Bactrim?

My derm said that Accutance will be next if I'm unhappy with this current cycle.

Though, Bactrim is a very strong antibiotic, it can have really scary side-effects in some people. I was on Bactrim DS (2x daily) for about a month, and I started getting hives and rashes and itching all over the place. I had to stop taking it, even though it was helping my acne quite a bit.

I don't know if food affects Bactrim, though. Sorry.

I've been on all kinds of acne meds and I've never had any side effects or any sufficient enough to notice. Makes me wonder if the meds are working...at least my acne is improving, I guess.
