Accutane is a "no no" for you? Not to sound rude, but you really might want to re-think that. Accutane is a MUST for you. Waste time with topicals and you'll be severely scarred for life.

If the cost is a problem, they have a free program you can sign up for. Ask your dermatologist.

If side effects scare you, don't let them. There are side effects to life in general. The doctors won't allow you to cause damage to yourself.

Have you tried benzoil peroxide? Your skin isn't that bad.

Dan's regimen would really clear your skin up, because it has benzoil peroxide in it, and that works.

...i agree with sickening ... please look into accutane, the longer that acne stays on ur face , u increase ur chances of scarring ... dont be scared...its a drug like anything else w/ side effects....if used properly (tests) u should be more than ok .... good luck to u

Consider why this person says Accutane is a no no for him/her. Accutane isn't for everyone.

Amethys, is there a reason you can't take Accutane?

If there isn't a medical reason why you can't take Accutane, then please consider taking it. What are natural remedies anyway? There really is no proper definition of "natural remedies". Isotretinoin occurs naturally in the body, it's just been isolated and concentrated in a pill. So what exactly would a natural remedy be? Again, please consider going on Accutane, it was the best thing I ever did for my skin.

The only thing that I would recommend other than accutane (in fact, I think I would definately try this before accutane because of possible side effects of accutane) is cool touch laser. But it is just as expensive if not more so than IPL. Remember, you cannot use accutane unless you are using 2 forms of birth control. Accutane can cause serious birth defects and other serious complications in some patients. It is not for everyone - but many patients have used it to successfully eliminate active acne.

AMETHYS,

This is the only face you have and I think YOU MUST take ACCUTANE. I really regret not having taken accutane. Eventhough my acne wasn't that severe, it did leave me awful scars. I perfectly understand you looking for a natural solution. But I think your case calls for a more drastic solution. Maybe you are so concerned about the side effects of accutane, but it will give you incredible benefits. Let's put it in this way: It's much better to deal with its side effects for 3-6-9 months that to deal with awful scars for the rest of your life. I'm (90%) vegetarian and I always like to try natural products, but during an "emergency" I can try anything. I've spent so much money on useless acne creams, products, treatments. If I had taken accutane at my first sign of acne, I would have saved so much money and time. Now I have to deal with scarring and here you have me! hopeless and frustrated. So do yourself a huge favor: TRY ACCUTANE.

Regarding the IPL, let me tell you what it can do and what are its probabilities:

1) Improve your appereance + with a 33.3% probability

2) Do nothing + - with a 33.3% probability

3) Worsen your condition - with a 33.3% probability

So there is a 66.6% chance that it will be a waste of money.

I was also thinking about IPL, (since I developed some redness due to heavy use of inefficient products), and I've heard nasty stories about it. IPL also helps to treat rosacea ( a chronic skin redness/inflamation) And in many cases it has worsened this condition or some people have developed rosacea.

One more thing, a series of (at least) 6 treatments (1 every month) need to be done and yet you won't see inmediate results. You will have to wait another couple of months.

I woulnd't mind spending that much money on something if there is at least a (guaranteed) 20%+ inprovement. IPL has done both: wonders and nasty consequences.

Hey Amethys,

You have to cycle through the lesions that were waiting to become future breakouts before you can get clear (it's the same for BP). That's the hard part, but Differin really works (at least it did for me). Just remember that a thin layer is the way to go (slathering it on doesn't make it work better)...and to put a dot in each sector of your face & spread it out from there.

Hang in there...maybe you can find an oil-free base makeup to cover some of the redness...the store brand from Ulta works for me, and it's only about $12. When my breakouts were really bad, I would go have a manicure/pedicure, so at least I could feel good about that part of my appearance.

Ask for the support of your husband & in-laws...or come here!

About the Differin...

KEEP USING IT. That bad breakout you get when you start a new lotion will clear up in a week or two, and THEN your skin will start to improve. Hang in there.

i jst been to my GP today but she said wait for another 4 wks, if its still no improvements she may then recommend me to specialist whom might give me accutane.

i dnt have any allergy, well, if its no improvements accutane will be my last resort.

coz its too early to tell, im jst on my early wks of differin and she said that it will get worse before I see results,,

the rest of my skin (face) is improving its just that im more worried about my right chin.

thank u all.

Iff you do not take accutane, you will seriously get scarring and that is 1 billion times worse because it will not go away. Inless you have a lot of money in which case you may get plastic surgery or some crap like that, but many of us are not rich.

Hi amethys,

i am afraid to see my bf's parents becoz of my scarring too!! So i know how you must be feeling!!

There are 2 problems you need to fix:

1) your acnes

2) your red marks.

1) Acnes: According to your photos. Your acnes are not that bad. You don't have cysts and your face is not v. lumpy.

I think you should stick with Differin or benzoil peroxide- Dan's regimen (in aust, is called Benzac AC 2.5%) for a few weeks and see how it goes.

Accutane is pretty effective if your acnes are not going away. The cost of Accutance without the goverment (medicare) rebate is quite expensive. I cannot clearly remember .. i think is around the AUD$120-$150 per month. However if you get the rebate is around AUD$50-60 per month. That does not include the derm's fee which is around AUD$85 per month and the blood test, cream...etc

So i think you should try Minocycline b4 Accutance if your skin didnt improved within these weeks. It is cheap and it may fix you up quickly but possibly come back to you later(fingers-crossed).

2) Your red marks: I really don't understand why it is soo red! Are you picking on them, amethys?

I remember my skin was THAT red only from the crappy smoothbeam treatments... ;)

anyway.. hope we ALL have better skin for 2006 !! :lol2:

Take accutane before you get scarred severely. Such deep scars cannot be corrected completely so do it before it is too late!

thanks strawberryface i must be applesface :D

at least someone out there know how i feel more w/ a same situation!

honestly,, i rly feel so nervous each day in fact i havent send them yet The "Invitation and the Parental Permit" for my son to travel w/ them. I want to pospone their arrival and its breaking my heart because im missing my 3yrs old son..

besides i dunno wat to explain when they ask me about this crap. they know i have acne but they didnt know this bad. cuz its not used to be so bad.

im taking 100mg doryx, actually it supposed to be 50mg but i doubled it myself.

and juliet 35 (family of DIanne 35)

Are you Australian? If u r, good on you. Im just hre in Aust as Student Visa (my husband is) so were not covered by such medicare wat we got as student is a private health funds which i find unhelpful and we only get 30% rebate.

Wat makes me soo red is i think i put thick film of differin and spread it on my face even space w/o acne.

and thats what i got.

I dnt have cyst in fact all my acnes flatten now. i just worried about the red marks,,

this could be the initial reaction of differin i think, cuz its early to tell the results.

As i did my research on the net bout diferin ,,all the redness, itchiness, and the break out is just normal

actually i dont really have worse break out just an accational 2 zits that goes away after days (FINGERS CROSS) its just looks worse cause i spread the film over my chicks!

Thanks again strawberry! Im Applesface

Hi appleface!! hehe :D and we grown in the same garden !! since we r both in Australia!!

Yes i am Australian so I guess i am luckier if i wanna prescribe Accutane

I have the same fear as you and i understand meeting your in law need alot of courage...

Does you in law like you?? Now that you are married may be appearance is less important,

as long as you treat them with tender love and care.. everything may work out nicely... (i know!! it is theory ;) hehe.. i hope i can do it too!!) and your son!! he wanna see his mama too right? i pray for you about this!!

and yeah.. you know what is causing your redness so may be you need to control the use of

differin.. Unless you really wanna make yourself an appleface!

Stay out from the sun and i heard aloe vera helps (i have allergy on it so i cannot tell you if it is true)

as for me, zinc cream helps (please do some research first)

anyway check out the board about "red marks" in this site!!

You are sooo lucky becoz you do not have scars !! trust me!! aviod them! if your skin get serious take the accutane !!

Good luck to our skin :lol2:

yea man, this is Australia, tane is affordable, please look into it for 3 reasons:

number 1] That topical retinoid your taking, it doesn't "cure" acne, it only supresses it [if it works],

once you come off it, your acne WILL return.

You want to work on your scars afterwards, rite? How do you purpose to do this while still applying your topical retinoid?

This is the problem i had, which is why i was excluded from doing so many scar treatments.

dont fall in the same trap, deal with your acne effectivley so you can concentrate on scar treatments after, otherwise they will never be fixed.

number 2]

If there isn't a medical reason why you can't take Accutane, then please consider taking it. What are natural remedies anyway? There really is no proper definition of "natural remedies". Isotretinoin occurs naturally in the body, it's just been isolated and concentrated in a pill. So what exactly would a natural remedy be? ...... Please. This is severe cystic acne. BP will only plague red all over his face. Accutane is the answer mate.
