How am i supposed to live a normal teenage life...

Recommended Posts

..when I can't drive? I'm half way through my senior year of high school and I still haven't got my license.. My dad wouldn't let me get my permit until last spring because he went back to college (change of career) and he says he didn't want the extra stress of teaching me. So I had to go through the embarrasment of going to driver's ed when i was 17, I couldnt get a summer job, and had to wait 6 months before being "eligible" to get my license. Well my dad finally made a dmv appointment for jan. 7th and now he says he wants to delay it EVEN MORE (cause he hasn't taken me out driving enough recently, i guess).

Ok now that I got that rant out of the way.. How am i supposed to enjoy high school when i'm stuck at home? I've had to rely on friends to get a ride home, but now the person who usually drives me has work right after school. I've had to walk home about a mile everyday recently and I can't attend any fball/bball games or parties without mooching a ride from someone. I used to have no trouble getting girls but now its not even an option. My older brother got a car and license right when he turned 16, and its not like i'm a jerk or anything to my parents so i don't know why they are destroying my social life. I'm the only upperclassman I know that can't drive, its embarrasing.

Your dad is holding you back because he doesn't want you to have a life. Basically, he'd be extremely lonely and jealous without you around. It's definitely abusive.

I suggest you get out ASAP.

I can't say I relate directly to your situation, but I definately know others similiar to you. The whole license thing is usually a big debate for parents everywhere. 16 or 18? 16 or 18!?!?? Fortunately, my parents let me get my license ASAP, so I took the class at 15, got my permit at 15 1/2 and drove about 2 months after my 16th birthday midway through my Junior year.

I know from experience that alot of the carless seniors are usually labeled losers, but for the most part, its really nothing to be ashamed of. Having a car does make everything so much funner though, but i'll be honest, most of the time I go out to parties and what not, im usually not the one driving.

My only suggestion is to make new friends. Seriously, because if you only have one friend who drives, then maybe you re look your whole situation???

PS....why are you not dead yet sickening?

Money isn't an issue. My parents bought my brother a $20,000 car and we live in a pretty nice house, not to brag or anything.

My dad is pretty much the only person that can take me out driving.. My mom died when I was really young and my stepmom doesn't really interact with me or my older bro, so driving with her isn't really an option.

My only suggestion is to make new friends. Seriously, because if you only have one friend who drives, then maybe you re look your whole situation???

Can your brother take you out driving so you can practice? And maybe if you talk to your brother about the matter then he can talk to your father.

He only comes home for holidays usually.

What have your conversations with you dad been like about this? Does he know how much this is mean to you?

I had a lot of trouble with my parents and driving. Almost all my friends were driving by the time they were 16 and even though I was older then most of them I still couldn't get my license. It really sucked at the time, but now it really doesn't mean anything. It took a lot of talks with my mother and explaining why I needed to get my license.

Somewhat off topic but about a month after I got my license I hit a car and wasn't allowed to drive on my own for the next few months. Trust me when I say watch where the front of the car is going as well as the back when you back out of a parking space.

In the US it varies from state to state, so it all depends on where you live. I used to live in Tennessee and they raised the driving age right after I got my license.

thatguy16, i'm not dead yet because I enjoy turning you into an emotional wreck too much.

LOOOLLLL!! Considering im so much happier than I used to be. Yeah, job well done. Ehh, Justin, your such an easy target. Seriously man. I already baked your ass a few times before, and honestly, it's getting boring now. Do I REALLY need to do it again? Then again, I don't have to because you usually end up doing it to yourself which is the most amusing part I must add.

Cya later Jackson **ahem**....I mean Justin.

See what I mean..

For future reference, thatguy16, try not to over-compensate too much. You tried too hard to act like you weren't an emotional wreck, so inevitably, that revealed the true nature of your feelings.

Hey, whatever floats your boat.

But if you want to get all technical and what not, it is somewhat obvious you have absolutely no life what soever. I mean, with all the new aliases you make every other day. I mean, you must get bored in your room posting on a forum where nobody likes you.

Again Justin. I'm going to repeat this to you. Nobody likes you. I've really tried to refraim from using personal insults because it's not of me to do so, but you seriously need to take your scarred-depressed-antisocial-ugly-ass outside!! Seriously. Your walls are closing in on your as we speak.

Emotional wreck..LOL, Oh God, I swear Justin, messing with you is my new pasttime. I mean, it's so easy, yet so amusing, like throwing a cat up to watch it land on it's feet again.

Please, reply again.

Everytime i've brought up the subject, he usually makes a sarcastic comment and walks away. I'm a decent driver too, for some reason he's just a control freak. He pulled similar shit my freshman year when he wouldn't let me join the football team, the only sport I liked in junior high.

sick, thatguy: take the pissing contest to pm fellas

Hey I’m in the same boat as you, I’m 17 (going to be 18 in February) I all so don’t have a car, it is so heard to do anything, trying to find a ride. I don’t have any friends so I have to rely only on my family (witch are great) The only reason I don’t have a car is because I don’t make a lot of money.

Good luck getting a car, there most be some way to convenes your dad to let you get a car

I thought this was not just about getting a car but about getting his license.
