I currently use Bare Minerals foundations by Bare Escentuals to cover my acne.

I have found it to be pretty effective as far as concealing the red marks, but I was wondering if anyone has had a bad experience with Bare Minerals. Has this makeup caused anyone to break out a lot? Does anyone else use this makeup and have good results?

I have very dry skin, but it gets very oily too. If I don't use a moisturizer my skin will get really flaky and dry, and if I do, it gets oily. So I always use a moisturizer and try to keep the oil to a minimum by putting on translucent powder throughout the day. The mineral makeup is the only thing that works for me because the liquid foundations only make the flakiness worse (although they have good coverage) and the other types also just make my skin dry and flaky.

I tried it and i am not sure if it was the sole cole or because of other things but i started to break out in cystic acne and i had never broke out like that before, i switched to neutrogena's clear skin makeup and it all went away. I have heard great things about this makeup but it just wasn't for me

I used a makeup with a similar formula (Aloette), and I had similar problems. I didn't have any blackheads, but I started to get a bunch of cysts, which I thought was a little weird. Anyway, I ended up switching makeup and things improved. I've heard the Bismuth Oxychloride and Mica in the BE formula can cause breakouts.

I wore it yesterday because I had bought a kit to try it out. How long should I wait to see if it will effect me? I hope it doesnt bother my skin.

I think if it were to cause any problems, you would know within the first couple of weeks of using it. I've used Bare Minerals for several months now, and I never experienced any additional breakouts when I started using it. The reason I asked the question is because I recently have been breaking out more than usual, so I went to the dermatologist and she asked what makeup I used, so I told her. She said that she has seen several women in the past few months that have been breaking out who use Bare Minerals, but that if I didn't break out when I first started using it, then it probably hasn't affected my skin and probably won't.

I just wanted to see what kind of results everyone else has been getting. I would definitely recommend Bare Minerals because it is oil-free and very gentle and does a good job of covering my blemishes.

I have another question that maybe some of yall can help me out with. My current skin regimen is 1 antibiotic (Doryx) twice a day, Duac in the morning, and Tazorac at night. The Tazorac makes my skin peel frequently, about every 2-3 days, so it's hard to put on makeup without making my skin flake up. Is anyone else on a similar regimen or have similar problems? If so, what kind of makeup do you use?

I just got off Accutane and my skin cleared up really well after I stopped using Jane Iredale MMU. A month after Accutane, I started using Bare Minerals and my skin has started breaking out again. I don't know if its the makeup or what is going on. My face just looks like garbage and I feel so sad. I also use Tazorac and the Bare Minerals just seems to emphasize the peeling. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate them.

Christ... i hope i dont break out. If i do breakout within the next 2 weeks it could have been because I have been eating chocolate and dairy nonstop since i have been on vacation from work. LOL

I was pretty convinced that diet didn't matter to your skin, but now I'm not so sure. About a year ago my skin was almost completely clear (I was on Benzaclin, Tazorac, and Sulfamethoxazole - similar to the regimen I just recently got back on) and I was still eating like garbage, which I normally do right now. So that makes me think that eating sugar, dairy, etc., doesn't make me break out. My boyfriend is pretty convinced that all the crap I eat (I eat a TON of candy and soda) is one cause of my breakouts. Anyway, I don't think the BM is making me break out, but if I don't get clear soon I may try some other makeup.

Poker-Butt! Your skin looks absolutely flawless when you put on the BM! Can you share with us what exactly your makeup routine is that makes it look so good?!? I gotta know! :)

I can relate with you on what you said about getting flakey with liquid foundations. Most liquid foundations in drugstores dry to a matte or semi-matte finish because they contain ingredients that are absorbents. If you want that matte looke without a foundation that is going to make you flakey and breakout, the trick is to use a dewy foundation and THEN PAT powder onto the face and it will look the same as if you chose a matte foundation but without disturbing your skin. If a moisturizer is making you oily, it is either not fully being absorbed by your skin and "sitting on top" or it is disrupting your skin's balance. You should go for a no-frills moisturizer containing simple and natural ingredients and glycerin-based. hth

I also have a real problem with liquid foundation highlighting my chronically flaky skin.... what brand of dewy foundations would you recommend?

I've used Bare Minerals for several months and I thought that by far it was the best make up I ever used. I hate foundations. I used to either put foundations on with my finger tips or with a sponge and I found that my pores always were clogging up. I started using bare minerals because a friend had talked me into it. I am always willing to try anything new. I love it. It is so easy and light. It covers very well. The only problem is that since it is all in powder form it can be easily brushed off. So you might need to reapply depending on your daily activities.

In regards to people breaking out using this makeup. It could be because of improper use of the brushes. I know that you need to use gentle, light downward strokes but not "dot" your face becuase the bristles can sometimes poke the face kind of like when you kiss a guy with with a five o'clock shadow. I noticed that I felt the brush poking my face rather than brushing it so I sometimes got a pimple there. However, for some people it might be a different reason. That is just what I found for myself. I really do love the make up becuase it is all natural and does not clog your pores. You can even sleep in it!

I used BareMinerals this summer and autumn and loved the coverage and the supposed natural formulation. However, after about three months I began to break out all over my face in small bumps. They looked like 3-D clogged pores and would slough off in the shower but come back right away. The mineral makeup covered redness, but when the light is just right there's nothing that can hide skin that looks like sandpaper. So that plus a few normal sized pustules caused me to freak out (I had basically nice skin before this point) and get on Yasmin tout de suite. Biggest mistake of my life, and I include several a-holes I dated in that count. I will be avoiding BE and Yasmin.

I'm really not tyring to beat this already dead horse but, I too have fallen victim of the breakouts, rash and irritation from this product.

Here is an interesting artical about Bismuth Oxychloride... http://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/Starner1.html

I think this product should have a disclaimer of some sort and will be contacting Bare Escentuals about the effects that many have found.

Has anyone had any luck with a mineral makeup not containing BO?

You're right, I am allergic to the BO... which is why I linked to the artical about it. Obviously there are those that can wear the product and my post wasn't to that group of women.

I hope that those who had a NEGATIVE reaction to the Bare Minerals visit the link and consider choosing a product without BO.

So I've read bismuth oxychloride in some MMUs can cause some people to break out. For those of you who definitively know that you're allergic, did this stuff make your face kind of itch? And for those out there who aren't allergic, do you notice this too but just don't break out, or does this just not happen? I ask because I like the coverage, but it does makes my face itch leading me to kind of freak out....

Ok no new breakouts yet that I can tell (its near that time of the month). I guess it is safe to say I am not going to have a reaction to this stuff?

sweet!

I'm a male from the UK and i use make up! I keep getting pimples on my cheeks but no major bumps thankfully.

I use Pure Minerals makeup for my red marks, probably the same as the bare minerals you use. I have had no reaction to it, gives me alot more confidence to go out. I know im covering up what still is a problem but socialising etc is alot easier for me now as i dont think people are staring at my redmarks!

I have persistant mild acne on my cheeks, oh so annoying but thanks to pure minerals its making life a little easier!
