Hey I recently began to cleanse my face and I noticed that dead skin is showing up

I washed in circular motion and the skin cells fell off and rinsed away.

Is this "exfoiliating" and is it promoting or preventing acne??

Hey, it could be exfoliating, depending on your cleanser. If you wash your face with cleansers that have tiny beads in them, use a scrub on your face, baking soda, etc.....you're exfoliating. It can promote or prevent acne, depending on your skin. Usually it's good to exfoliate, to slough off that layer of dead skin on your face so it doesn't clog pores. But you don't want to overdo exfoliation as it can irritate your face. For me, I find that exfoliating keeps my skin soft and clear.
