Would putting Salicylic Acid on your face work for scars?

Someone told me this-Just apply Salicylic acid to acne scars, known as 'wart remover'. Apply once a day. A layer of your skin will be burnt off. Then apply another layer. Keep applying once a day until the acne scar is completely burnt off.

But this stuff will leave a mark on your skin for several days. After several days have past, your skin will become very smooth.

Is this true or not?

I actually tried this (out of desperation). What actually happened was I burn off the fragile skin on my face leaving an open wound, raw flesh. This turned into a scab, lasted a few days. To my horror when it healed the red acne mark I was trying to get rid of was still present (despite burning off all that skin?!).

So I wouldn't advise it.
