Dry lips on tane

Recommended Posts

Okay 2 months on tane, first the lips were no biggy. But im slowly finding Im more fussing about my lips than my acne! My lips are really constantly dry, and to top it off, ive got this red rash thing on the right of my top lip. Constantly peely lips which are really dry. ive been using blistex relief cream, which seems to be the best stuff. It helps, but doesnt help enough. My lips get dry again after an hour or two, and im constantly licking my lips all the time. Too much blistex also makes my lips look too shiny and weird. Whilst my acne is clearing, my lips look like shit, and it seems my lips seem to be holding me back in socialising now, and things like kissing. meeting girls - but scared to kiss them!! Can you imagine! I hate dry lips fucking hell. And dont wanna jump off the tane.

Tried:

Nivea dry lip balm

Blistex Intensive Moisutirser

Blistex Relief Cream (prob the best)

Vasline

Lypsall

Anyone know how to conquer the dry lip problem??

that dr dan guy can only provide that sht in the states right>??

Believe it or not, Lanolin (wool fat - can be bought at pharmacy)is quite good! lol...it's REALLY greasy, but if you apply lots of it at night before bedtime, your lips will be a lot better the next morning... Then lip balm two -three times during the day is sufficient..

and try to avoid licking your lips -it will only make it heaps worse...especially if it's cold and windy.. (assume it's crap weather in the uk now?)

Hello pal,

Hows things going with the Accutane anyway? You finding it OK as I'm due to start late November.

I have fairly dry and chapped lips anyway so god knows what Tanes gonna do to them. But I do use Anthony Lip Balm - Citrus 9gm from Mankind.co.uk and it's f**king amazing my friend. Really soothes and lasts all day without a nasty glossy finish etc.

Give it a shot pal and see what you think.

Good luck, keep us all posted.

Here's what works for me... I kinda invented this on my own...

I have a combination of 4 things that I use.

(1) Chapstick Medicated Lip Balm (light blue label)

(2) Aquafor Gel

(3) Chapstick Lip Moisterizer

(4) Burt's Bees (Beeswax Lip Balm available at www.burtsbees.com)

I've found that the trick to keeping my lips in working order is actually rubbing the stuff into my lips and not just smudging it on like I'm putting on lipstick. And I mean, really really really rub it in. I have all of them here with me at work and I just pick out a new one every 20 minutes (or when my lips start getting dry), apply it, RUB IT IN!, and I'm good to go for a while. You'll notice after you do this for about 2 weeks that your lips aren't as chapped when you wake up in the morning. Also, be forewarned that the Burts Bees stuff stings like hell but is great if your lips are super chapped. Until your lips soften up, it will soothe them and take away the irritability.

Hope this helps!

Hi there

I have been on Accutane (called Roaccutane here in the UK) and i am also experiencing the dry-lips which comes with it.

But I have found a really soothing remedy. It's called CARMEX and it comes in a little yellow pot and it makes my lips so soft.. like they were before i went on the accutane. I know everyone is different but I really do recommend this, especially as you have tried most other things. (I found Vaseline crap.) Carmex doesn't make your lips look ridiculously shiney and over-loaded, no matter how much of it you pile onto your lips.

And you must try so hard not to lick your lips, it'll make it so much worse.

Please take my advice and track down a pot of Carmex ...

you'll be kissing again in no time...

hope this helps,

love Katie

i'm on my 2nd course of accutane, just imagine how bad mine must be!!

ok, what REALLY helps is Medicated Lip Ointment by Blistex... it's in a little white tube. What I usually do is put it overnight like on the sides of my lips and where they are cracked.

I found my lips were starting to get really bad when the colder weather started to roll around. My derm prescribed me this stuff called PrevexHC which I put on when my lips get really bad. That seems to really help.

Other than that, drinking LOTS of water and eating plenty of healthy fats has helped alot aswell.

Kissing can be a real pain though. My lips get REALLY dry after about 5mins.
