Doxycycline: I've stopped on my own accord can I start again?

Hi all,

I asked for doxycycline and was put on it, I don't know if I can stop and start it again on my own accord? And what makes a course of doxycycline?

I mean I know that people say you should finish all the antibiotics given to you.

I haven't, and how do I ask my doctor what counts as a course in doxycycline.

I'm just a little scared of all the infection thingy that may happen if I start again
