IPL

I have seen people talk about IPL on here but does IPL actually have more than one meaning? The one I have heard of is intense pulse light. Does anyone know if this is the only IPL? I think it mainly works of for discoloration but not scars.

I believe IPL works best with red marks / hyperpigmentation / visible blood vessels/ hair removal etc. I haven't heard of it being beneficial for scarring.

Even if it were being marketed as being beneficial for scarring, being a non-ablative form of laser, I doubt it would work that effectively.

Funny enough, I went to the dermo today, and she's trying to "sell" me on the IPL & aggressive microdermo for my scars. I went in there to talk about Fraxel, which she said I would get 50% inprovement with Fraxel and 30% with IPL/micro. Then she did a test area (for free) of the IPL on my cheek. It's been around 4 hours since and the skin looks tighter/smoother, but I don't think I'm going to do it (even though it's cheap - $250 for both treatments) I really don't think it will do much for scars. Just my opinion!

Have there ever been reports of fat loss from IPL or was that something else? The one doctor I talked to only recommended IPL for discolorations so why does it seem that doctors expect such different results from the same treatment. Are most of them quacks that tell you what you want to hear to get your money?
