falnhart 0 Share Posted October 26, 2005 I had a culture done and the doc's office said the test proved negative. However, he said to continue with the antibiotics. Why take antibiotics if there's no bacteria? To prevent it or??
dermpro 0 Share Posted October 26, 2005 Cultures, like all other medical tests, are not 100% accurate, and your doc knows this. Also, you need to make sure if the doc was looking for something other than the most common acne bacteria. P. acnes is not commonly identified on skin cultures anyway, since it is considered to be normal flora. Perhaps your doc was trying to rule out a gram-negative folliculitis, which will look exactly like acne....
