BP "balls up" under foundation, help!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

First off, if this is a commonly asked question, please excuse my ignorance! #-o

My problem is when I put on benzoyl peroxide cream in the morning, it balls up/comes off when I put my face makeup on, no matter how carefully I apply them.

Anyone else have this problem, and any advice?

TIA!

Make sure you wait at least 15 minutes before applying your foundation so that the BP will absorb into your skin better.

Here are some things you might try:

Look for a good, thin bz lotion. You don't want something that's thick for wearing underneath makeup. I really like benzac AC, which is a prescription med (though it costs only a tiny bit more than OTC meds). It's very effective and very thin, and I've found that it works really well under liquid foundation.

Look for a foundation/power/whatever you use that's compatible with your bz. I used to use covergirl liquid foundation, but it was total crap over bz. Then I switched to the Clinique brand, and it's really great with the bz, but kind of expensive (17.50 a bottle). If you find anything that's effective but cheaper, be sure to let me know.

Use a moisturizer or a sunscreen between the bz and the makeup layer. If moisturizer makes you break out (like it does me), then I would definitely suggest you try a very (very!) thin layer of a face-sunscreen between your bz and your makeup. This has worked wonders for me. (I like Coppertone Oil-Free Faces).

Hope this helps.

i use benzaclin in the morning--and i put a moisturizer on top of in on the dry spots--i really dont think it decreases the effectiveness at all--my face now is totally clear--and i completely stopped using liquid foundation--but now i use laura mercier tinted moisturizer--it covers really well, but it not masklike, and then a little powder on top--if i need more coverage, i use mac studiofix powder--its a powder foundation so this might be really good on top of ur bp too cuz ur not rubbing it on--i think u shouldnt be afraid to moisturize

yeah, I too have that problem (ball-up) when I don't let the bp absorb.I have to wait a good 20 min. after bp application before putting anything on top. After the 20 min. I put on my moisturizer, let it set for at least 5-10 min. then I put on foundation. I know this sounds like a long and tedious procedure before going out, but I guess that's the price you pay for beauty :D Every time I rush this procedure...It balls up.

Even when I wait 20 min, mine still tends to ball up a little. It's no big deal, just gently wipe the balling part off (it's not going to effect the BP helping your skin, I aksed Dan) and then apply the make-up so that it doesn't goo up together.
