hi, I'm a 19 year old girl and I'm battling horrible acne. I recently started to use Murad acne complex and my acne cleared up almost totally after a month and my scars faded and I was so happy. Then out of nowhere, like a month later, I break out with like 9 huge red noticable zits. It just devestated me. I've done EVERYTHING. I eat right (except for the occasional treats), i take a multi-vitamin every day, I'm past the "puberty" stage (and this hardly seems like the type of acne you get through puberty), I even went to my doctor to check to see if I have a hormonal imbalance and I did blood and urine test and it came out fine. I was my face in the morning with murad acne complex, and again at night except I use the vitamin c night cream from murad at night. I only wear make-up when I have to go out and when I do, it's always oil free. I don't touch my face, I don't put my hair in my face...it's always tight back. When I sleep I make sure I don't sleep on my face. I've lost all hope, everything I've tried has failed and this time I thought it was working but it was only good for a little while.

I'm soooo frustrated I can't even explain it. I wouldn't mind having acne if it was the color of my skin but the ones I get are big red ones (i think they are cysts) that leave huge scars that take forever to go away. It seems like as soon as my skin clears up and I get happy, it all goes down the drain. My face is covered in them right now and I won't even leave the house, I don't even want to be around my family because of it. I just wanna be alone. I don't really break out on my forhead, it's mainly around my mouth/chin area and worst of all, on like where the cheecks are and the jawline. You know what I mean?

I really think it might be an internal problem, but what? I do everything yet here I am, stuck in my room. I don't have a hormon imbalance. Please any help I would appreciate!

I'm going to the doctor's this friday, I was thinking about asking him for some pills, but what should I ask for? birth control pills? estrogen pills? is there a pill that promotes estrogen production? is there a pill that supresses testosterone?

The doctor might recommend a drug for the acne specifically :S you didn't mention that you've tried anything to stop the acne, but that you don't do anything that you think could lead to acne.. :S Maybe accutane could clear it up? It seems to be the answer to most people's problems :S lol.

Or you could try Dan's regimen? I've kind of just started but it seems to be working... :S

well, I did list the thinks I did to stop the acne. I changed my diet, my cosmetics, my regime, everything I can do.

I've been to a dermotogist many times and all they do is seem to want to give me some harsh creams that actually make my skin worse. Maybe I should look for a better derm. So I decided to just go to a regular family doctor.

As far as accutane, I'm really not willing to take the risks that come along with it. I actually have afew friends who have tried it and it seems to have far more negatives than positives.

I know for a fact that my acne is not caused by dirt and stuff like that. It's internal(and i know because it's not just the severe acne, I've noticed that I'm becoming "hairyer", I've recently gotten more facial hair and body hair and I've been have mood swings)...I need oral medication...I'm just not sure what to ask for. I know estrogen clears skin, but what am I supposed to say? can I get estrogen pills? lol.

I have used murad in the past and it broke me out. I would stay away from the Vitamin C cream, that is too heavy for a 19 year old. I am very familiar with the products, I sold them for years. Try the regimen?

Really? I actually talked to the specialist where I bought the stuff and a murad rep on-line and they both said the vitamin c would be good cuz it treats damage, and I've noticed that is has. Sorry, I'm not as educated on these topics! What difference does it make if i'm 19? That kinda confused me. So I shouldn't use heavy creams?

The murad system actually has improved my skin, because before I had red, irritated skin with big pores, and these big red zits. But now I mainly just have the big red zits. Otherwise, my skin is getting better.

I really do think it's internal. I can just tell by the changes. Maybe I should try anti-biotics?

haha, well, the thing is, is there even such a thing as an "estrogen pill"?

I had tests done to see if I had a hormonal imbalance! Wouldn't that be the same as getting my estrogen levels checked? Maybe my estrogen level is normal but my testosterone level is high? there's so many possibilities I'm not sure which one to pursue first.

Your skin sounds alot like mine has been all my life. I did the accutane thing, it helped tremendously for about 4 years, then the acne gradually came back. So, contrary to alot of people's beliefs, accutane is not always the cure people think it is. There have been so many people here report that their acne came back after accutane.

So, my advice is going to be, of course, the Regimen here. My skin has responded beautifully to it, and I am clear. Of course I get about 1 or 2 zits a month, which I am sure is related to female hormone fluxuations (and I am not talking imbalance, just the normal fluxuations that happen each month to women). But my skin looks good, is clear, and the Regimen is not difficult or expensive to do.

Read through the site, see what you think, it's worth a try.

Here is what I am using, just in case you are interested.

wash with Purpose gentle cleansing bar

neutrogena on the spot acne cream

Eucerin Skin Renewal moisturizer with spf15

I sometimes will use Neutrogena Healthy Skin Lotion spf 15 in place of the Eucerin, it has a stronger amount of alpha hydroxy acid in it.

Anyway, that's it. Not expensive, not time consuming at all.

Go to the link at the top of this page and read about the regimen, then see if you think it is worth a try.

Good luck.

I think everybody needs to find their own balance of prevention and killing the bacteria beneath the upper layers of skin. After nearly 15 years of fighting these problems, I've found a birth control pill (they're not all alike) that has anti-androgynes (sp?sorry) properties, take a multi vitamin every day, avoid foods that increase my stress and talc production(coffee, coke, and chocolate),good cleanser and moisturizer, and use the BP gel at night. For me the biggest help in all the years of things I've tried is the BP gel. Try it, but keep looking for the right combination for you.
