I have never found a cleanser that was effective on either of these alone.
I have more blackheads and whiteheads than actual pimples, so I will tell you what got rid of them for me. I wash with Purpose (you will need to lather up two or three times to really get your skin clean), then I use Ponds Dramatic Results skin brightening age defying moisturizer (man,, that's a mouth full). Note, Pond's has changed the name of thisproduct and will reintroduce it May 1 as Radiance Restored and it will have an spf 15 in it. It has glycolic acid, retinol, and vitamin C in it and I have found that it really improves the look of my skin.
Yea, I agree with Jodie. Not to be pessimistic, but I feel there is not "one" cleanser that is the whole enchilada.
Anyway, Indoobidubly, I recommend cleansing daily and exfoliating often, but gently. I've never tried using a facial mask (there's something about it that bombs a guy's pride ) but I've noticed that many ladies use it and usually have good results (mostly clear of blackheads & clogged pores). I remember reading a thread with someone claiming it's the "21st century" and that guys are more than allowed to indulge in beauty techniques that were once left solely for girls. So it's all up to you.
Not to be biased, but I definitely recommend Christine's regimen (found on this thread here). I've been using it for a little bit over a week and see noticeable differences in facial complexion and clearness. I've also been maintaining present and future breakouts quite well.
