Does your face have to turn red in order for the product to work??

I ordered derm and peel off the tv about a week ago (I'll let you know how it goes) and anyways you use the microdermabrasion that comes with it, and then it gives you an at home glycolic peel. The instructions said "leave on for 5-20 minutes, and rinse off with cool water once face turns red." Well, my face never turned red the entire time. It stung a little when it was put on and when it was rinsed off but it never turned red the whole time. Was the product working or did I do something wrong? I'm new to this whole thing so any help is appreciated!

p.s. I have a lot of small/medium indented scars on my cheeks will something like microdermabrasion and the peel (if it works) help with this or was i ripped off by another "as seen on tv" product.
