Recent reports from a few different studies have shown a connection between milk consumption and acne. See milksucks.com and notmilk.com for more information. One explanation is an increase in IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1) and decrease in IGFBP-3 (which accepts retinoic acid) caused by the IGF-1 in milk, and perhaps even stimulated by the exogenous source of IGF-1. This unbalance of IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 encourages overgrowth of cells along the follicular walls of the pore, leading to plugged pores. Another explanation for the milk-acne link is the increased release of sebum caused by the testorone pre-cursor hormones given off by cows when they are pregnant. Please respond to the survey truthfully and honestly. IF YOU DO NO DRINK MILK BUT STILL GET ACNE, PLEASE RESPOND, as your input will help us determine if there is a legitimate link. Also, do not estimate how much dairy you eat, but rather, how much milk you drink. If you eat a significant amount of cheese, sour cream, or cottage cheese EVERY DAY, then please estimate as best you can how many servings of milk are in your dairy intake. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE, JUST RESPOND WITH HOW MUCH MILK YOU DRINK (either in cereal or by itself).
