How long does Retin-a take to work well?

Recommended Posts

Been on Retin-a for 15weeks, with a little improvement i.e. smoother skin although a bit reder.

I have read that it takes a year for best improvements. Is this true?

Wow, 15 weeks?

I'm on week 9 at the moment, and intially I didnt see much improvement, but I rarely get full blown pimples anymore. At most I get a tiny whitehead here and there. I still have red marks as well, but those are slowly fading away.

Are either of you seeing improvement in scarring if you had any?

I have been on Retina (0.05%) for several years, after being on Accutane when I was in high school (now I am 29yo). It took several years of using Retina for my scarring to minimize, which my doctors have attributed largely to Retina.

So, my answer would be: I have seen SOME improvement in my scarring, but it took a good 2 years. Stay strong!

I dont know. My skin certainly feels smoother all the time but red marks and scars dont seem to be changed. Perhaps I'm on too weak stuff (0.025%).

Anyone know if Retin-A Micro is better than the traditional stuff?

I have been on retin a .1 for five months. Has really helped the black heads. I was still breaking out a little so I have added a 15% glycolic lotion (MD Forte) to my regimen in the a.m. I have very tough skin so this is not good for everyone. Now I no longer break out. I make sure I use a high spf sunscreen.

i use retin a with hydroquinone 5% once a week and when i wash it off in the morning my skin feels really smooth but it gets awfully red and peels too - i think my derm gave it to me cause i'm on accutane in order to minimise scarring...........
