Wildrose's Second Accutane Experience

Ok here is a little bit about me. I'm almost 21 years, I'll be 21 in April smile.gif and I've had acne since I was 17. For me it started after I went to this chinese lady evil.gif for a facial and she wasn't my regular facialist. Next thing I knew I started to get acne. (I still like to blame her for my acne..grrr) I have really really sensitive skin so most topicals don't work, they burn me or really irritate my skin. I've tried dalicin T, clindamycin, clindets, differin, benzamycin, benzol peroxide 5% & 2.5%, and a whole load of other topicals that my mom gave me (my mom's a doc). My acne is mild to moderate. It's not bad but its not nothing either. Some other things I tried are liver flush tea, codliver oil, vitamin E, burdock root & milk thistle which worked for a short while but wore off, and b5, most of all this crazy herbal stuff didn't work.

Anyway I've also tried tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline and I've been on accutane once before. Accutane round one has completely cleared my back and its still clear, I mean my back used to be my problem area and I had tons of little zits and some big ones, no cysts though. It was still bad though, I was always too embarresed to wear a tanktop or bikini and I'd always swim with a t-shirt on. Accutane cleared my face but eventually the acne came back on my face but it didn't come back as strong. I went on birth control, orthotricycline, which only made it worse and then I returned to minocycline and now its back to Accutane. I hope this will be my last course of accutane. I hate going on this medication because the side effects suck and it takes around 3 months or so to really produce an effect.

Week 1:

Ok I'm taking 40 mg right now at lunch time. My acne, which was not so bad before the accutane, it was just my forehead and left cheek with a bunch of small zits, has gotten worse! After starting accutane more acne has popped up!!! I hope this is the initial breakout. Oh man this sucks. I look really horrible cry.gif Also my lips are a little dry and my skin is really dry and my back is starting to hurt. Damn accutane side effects mad.gif Well the second round of accutane is not as bad as the first though I have to say, at least now I know what to expect so even though I look like crap I know not to worry it will get better. I've taken some pictures of what I look like so I can see my progress. Maybe I'll post them eventually but now I'd rather not see how horrible I look. I'll post a pic of me after accutane round 1 so you guys can see. Plus looking at a pic of me where I don't look horrible might remind me that it will get better!

Week 2:

Well the acne on my left cheek and forhead has calmed down a little and now its much smaller. Now I just have a few red marks from the outbreak that need a little healing. My lips are still dry, my skin is dry but not bad, and I get the occasional back or joint ache rarely. I guess week 1 was the initial outbreak, I'm glad that's over with! Anyway I'll post some pics and keep you posted.

Week 3

Well my acne is improving! The zits are getting smaller and I have much less acne now. I only have a few red marks that have to heal but they're tiny. Yey accutane is doing its thing slowly! smile.gif I've also been moved up to 50 mg now.

Side Effects:

REALLY DRY LIPS

dry itchy scalp

occasionally dry eyes eusa_shifty.gif

Things I use while on Accutane:

Blistex Complete Moisture

For my dry itchy scalp washing my hair in egg yolk or with olive oil works plus its good for my hair

I use eye drops as well

I also use CEP serum to moisturize my skin and to help with healing. My skin was dry, itchy and flaking and I had red marks from my initial breakout but CEP solved the problem.

QUESTION: Anyone out there been on Accutane twice? Did it work for you the second time or did the acne come back and if it did come back was it much milder?

Im currently on my second course too biggrin.gif And your acne isnt even that bad!!! No need to feel bummed. And your very pretty too. Anyways, i have noticed much more rapid improvement this course. My first course took me until the end of the 5th month to clear. Now that I am in the 5th week of my second course, I am clearing quite nicely. I would say at least 75% improvement from 5 weeks ago which is unreal. Its scary its working this fast this time, but im not complaining cool.gif . Anyways, i am also doing some things differently this time around too which is also helping to expedite the process.

LOTS of water- drink it like its your job. reduces acne and dryness

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser- my best friend. So soft and doesnt overdry

Olay Total Effects Moisturizer- a bit expensive, but its uncomparable.

I still have many whiteheads that are coming to the surface which I actually kinda like ironic as it may sound. This is because my face is pushing all the crap out. Once i get a whitehead in a particular location, that location remains clear for a long time. So i like to think of it better now then later.

Anyways goodluck!! wink.gif

Awww thanks for the compliment OmarLV and all the tips. Yeah I should try to drink more water. I'm glad to hear its working even better for you the second time round. Hopefully I'll experience the same thing as more time goes by. I also wasn't completely clear till the 5th month last time. Hopefully round two is going to be our final round! Best of luck smile.gif

WEEK 5

Ok, its been a while since I updated, been so busy with school, yey its almost over!

My acne is getting much better and much smaller. Its very mild now.

SIDE EFFECTS:

dry bleeding lips

dry eyes

THINGS I USE:

*Jason Shampoo, its organic with no chemicals so it doesn't irritate my scalp, when I first started accutane my scalp was sooooo dry and itchy, I also wash my hair with egg yolk once a week, very nourishing for the scalp, try it if your scalp is dry and itchy

*Blistex complete moistue, which isn't working sad.gif

*emu oil to heal any red marks from acne

*CEP also for healing

QUESTION FOR OTHER ACCUTANE USERS: Anyone know a good moisturizer for lips that I can find in Canada? I don't think we have Aquaphor, at least I haven't seen it.

Glad to hear your acne's clearing up....

It looks like you barely have acne at all.

I've just started my second round of roaccutane.

1 week in, and am having a bad breakout, but hopefully that will pass!!

I just started on accutane a few weeks ago, for the first time, and have had acne for about 7 years.  (I'm 19 now)  I tried everything else and got fed up.  confused.gif

but about the dry lips - even though it seems a little gross i just use plain vaseline, and it seems to be working for me.  I don't know if you've tried that.

Week 7:

Well things are looking good. I'd post pics but my camera is at my apartment and I'm at my mom's house. Anyway I just have a few tiny pimples on my left cheek, and maybe one tiny pimple on my forehead. I just need the redness in some places on my skin from previous acne to heal. So how is the tepezcohuite working? AMAZING! Wow this stuff really does live up to what they say its supposed to do. I had an ugly scratch on my hand because I was itchy and I scratched my hand too much and some of the skin came off cry.gif so as an experiment I put on tepezcohuite every day and in 36 hours the skin was completely healed and just a little pink, and 12 hours later no more pinkness, couldn't even see I had a scratch there. I got tepezcohuite from lavigne organics. I love this stuff. wub.gif I mean I tried other things for healing like Emu oil, viaderm but nothing compares to tepezcohuite.

SIDE EFFECTS:

dry hair

my skin is really thin, I can actually see a lot of veins now, its creepy neutral.gif

itchy skin

back aches eusa_wall.gif

a little moody (grumpy) eusa_snooty.gif

hey there,

Im so glad I found your journal here. It sounds like you have the exact type of skin the I have. I am 17, and I have never had acne in my life until this year. Im a perfectionist which doesnt help whatsoever, so I think my acne is worse then it really is. My problem area is my forehead too! Its the worst. Its only mild on my face though, but it is pretty bad on my back. Today is my 11th day on accutane. My lips are pretty irritated, really red and kind of swollen. What lip stuff works for you? I had a little bit of an initial breakout yesterday, 2 more pimples popped up on my forehead, and its really frustrating. Is week 2 a little late for an inital breakout? A lot of people have told me that because my acne is very mild, the accutane wont work. That seems weird to me, is that true? I figured I would ask you because you have been through it once before and its seemed to work for you! I really hope my acne and red marks (which are THE WORST!) clear up before my senior prom....May 21 sad.gif how is the tepezcohuite working? can you put that on red marks on your face or no? sorry about all the questions, i just think our skin types are alike and I wanted to ask! thanks!
