PhotoDerm

I'm going into the Gateway Laser Center this morning in Salt Lake City for my first PhotoDerm treatment to get my skin a more normal tone (like, all one color!).

Wish me luck and I'll post what it was like and my results as I go along.

Well, I completed my first treatment. She went aggressively because I'm a stay-at-home mom and my face is certainly showing it.

Basically, my face is a mass of purple spots. Lots of swelling, bruising and broken blood vessels. My PA said that is what would happen, but I'm wondering if I didn't make a huge mistake. . .

Hoping things will be better in a few days. Will keep you posted.

2nd Day Post: The redness from yesterday has gone down quite a bit and the broken blood vessels seem to be going down as well, although I'll be surprised if those disappear before at least a week passes.

Even though the redness and the broken blood vessels seem to be improving, I woke up this morning w/my face being even more swollen than it was before I went to bed. I mean, even my eyelids (both lower and upper) are totally puffed out and she didn't even touch those w/the laser. I'm wondering if that's normal.

More updates to follow. . .

After I posted this morning, I called the clinic and spoke to the PA who did my treatment and she said that what I was experiencing was totally normal.  The puffiness was increased due to the fact that I have a tendency to sleep, literally, on my face.  She suggested taking two ibuprofen before bed and propping myself up w/pillows to prevent my face from puffing out again.

The purple spots (they resemble little hickeys all over my face) should be reduced quite a bit by day four, but might not be completely gone til a week to ten days after the procedure.

I felt better after calling because my PA even gave me her cell phone number to contact her over the weekend if I needed to ask any more questions.

Day 3: Today I woke up w/almost no extra puffiness to my face and I can see that the purple marks are starting to get a bit lighter. They still have quite a ways to go, but I can see a bit of a difference.

I also have a bit of milia popping up in the areas that were most hardest hit by the laser, but this is to be expected as well.

More to follow. . .

Day 5: The purple spots are now fading to a light red color and my face is not swollen at all anymore. Milia are calming down and seem to be disappearing as well.

Hopefully, w/in the next two or three days, my face will be completely back to normal.

stasia: what is your problem.....indented scars, pigmented spots, etc.

i assume the laser you are having done is an IPL laser (light based....not a laser)

Puffiness was completely gone by day 5, but today (day 6) I still have some lighter red spots left from the original purple spots.

Just try to imagine the life span and stages of a hickey and you'll understand what the spots on my face are going through. biggrin.gif

The redness will probably last till the weekend, I think.  Which would still be accurate, since I was given 7-10 days approximation for complete disappearance of red/purple spots from the PA that I spoke to on the phone.

1 Week Update: My face is pretty much completely calmed down. Faint redness from where the laser was used more enthusiastically. I can put on light foundation and it not be noticeable.

Fine lines have been almost eliminated and I can see that w/the lightening of the redness that the overall tone of my face seems to have improved quite a bit. Areas of scarring don't seem as obvious as they had before.

Looking forward to the next treatment, scheduled March 31.
