Hey there Chicklet,

I have great news!!! I was precribed accutane, but I wont be starting until monday once Iget my lab results back. My derm was cool with prescribing me accutane and I am really happy!!! Now all I have to do is wait till monday and hope for some good new regarding my blood samples and then go on the tane. Though I will start out on a low dosage of one pill a day, whatever that means. Now I am scared of how bad I will breakout during the initial breakout period  but in the end it will be well worth it.

How about you? How is your treatment coming along? Anything new to share? Improvements by leaps and bounds?

That is very good news for ya!!!!

Monday will soon come around and in no time u will have nice clear skin,

so how many months u going to be on it?

Dont worry bout the initial breakout it will clear in the end

well me, my breakouk is still carrying on, i have never had so many pimples on my forehead, i never used to breakout there really, but now i have loads, but u cant really notice them cause they are skin coloured and small, u only know they are there when u touch it.

i dont have dry lips still, no dry skin, i have a bit of backache when i lie down or sit, but it goes away as fast as it came, so i aint bothered by it at all, oh yeah i had an itchy nose, so i pinched the end of it to see it would make it go away, but it made my nose bleed a bit, so that shows just how fragile ya skin is. thats about it though.

so u looking forward to startin tane apart from the breakout?

Hey there,

Yes I am really looking forward to going on accutane but I guess as the dasy near I am getting nervous about the breakout and how bad it is going to be and the potential side effects. I was just wondering how dry your eyes actually get and if you can still wear contact lenses. As for you, how long hva eyou been on it> Is your skin still moist? Are you using mooisturizer to keep your face from over drying? I hope your doing well, as for me, when I start Ill keep you posted.

Sorry i didnt reply sooner, I was off work and dont have access to a computer at home, mayeb it is a good job not to have one though cause all my time would be taken up checking new posts lol.

so have u started accutane now? if not how long is it to go now?

my eyes only get dry for a bit, it isnt a prob at all for me, just get eye drops if it bothers u!!!!

i think u can stil wear contacts if u use drops, i think the derm will give ya some if u ask.

me i have been on tane for 3 weeks today now.

yes my skin is stil moist, i am using johnsons 5.5 moisturizer and it works so great, my face hasnt been dry at all, no flaking skin nothing. and no redness which is good cause i was worried bout that.

so all is going well for me, i cant wait to see what happens on month 1!!!

well keep me posted.

Hey there,

Its cool. Yeah work and the net dont really go well together. Anyways I was supposed to start accutane today but my lab results arent ready yet. Have to wait till wednesday, what the heck!!! Anyways, I'm glad to hear that accutane has been treating you great! So how is your progress? Any breakouts? How would you rate your current experience with accutane so far on a scale form 1-5 (1 being extremelt bad)? Im sorry for all the Q's, its just I am starting to get a bit nervous before going on it (if I am allowed, depending on my lab results). Anyways, its great hearing from ya. Keep me posted!!!

Ha the first thing i did this morning was visit here, instead of sorting post, oh well, i have to catch up, dont I!!!!

God that would really piss me off if i was posed to start and then i couldnt, at least u were allowed to go on it anyways.

Well the progress, humm well since the breakout i had loads of little spots on my forehead, which seem to be shrinking and hopefully gone by month 1, i also have a spot on my cheek, which i picked and i am afraid that it may scar and stay there, i so hope not cause it is so noticeable.

i aint had any new breakouts at all, no oil, no drynes so all is good.

I would say my experience with tane up to now, has been very good, the breakout didnt bother me cause they were so small and not really seen, so i would say scale 5, very good.

I dont mind all the q's, i am happy to help u out.

oh yeah id ont know if this is a side effect but on my left hand, index finger nuckle, these bump like things appeared there on friday, they dont hurt, arnt painful or itchy, but it is quite red, well was quite red it seems to be going down now whatever it is, i also had a few scattered on my hand and a few on my left hand, they have dissapeared now, my mum said it could be something i have used on my hands and then we thought it was prob tane but it aint written in the side efects leaflet so i av no clue.

if it dont go down soon i will go the doctors to av it checked out.

Hmm...Strange, never heard of bumps on fingers as side effect either. Hopefully it is someting you put on like cream so that you can stop and all is well. Wow!!! A 5! That definitly makes me feel alot better bout going on accutane. I've heard so many negative stories recently about how it will cause scars and stuff. About those lil' bumps you mentioned on your forehead? How big are they? Are they red like inflamed pimples or are they skin colored and hardly noticable? Plus, did you notice during your intial breakout period that you broke out in new places? Like areas of your face that never broke out before?

Yeah it was quite worrying seeing it on my hand when i woke up, i thought oh god what can that be and i though if i went to the derm they would take me off tane, i doubt them would but i didnt wanna chance it.

my mum said give it a few days and if it dont go go to the doctor.

yeah all those negative stories put me off to, but every one has a different experience, hopefull by the end of the treatment i will be happy.

the bumps on my forehead are skin coloured and not noticeable at all which is good.

yeah i broke out on my forehead, i never used to breakout there at all, maybe one tiny little bump a month and then it went. so it really annoyed me that i brokeout there, but as i said it is nearlly cleared.

so what is your acne like, is it severe?

Well, I definitly cannot say it is severe. My derm even told me that usually people that go on accutane have worse acne than me. But he did mention that some of my acne is cystic and therefore since I have tried many other solutions and I wanna get rid of acne for good, why not try accutane. So planning to try it out! I guess in a way having what is considered to be mild acne contributes to my fears of accutane especially since I have really little noticable scars on my cheeks and some say that a round of accutane will scar you more. I definitly hope what they say are untrue and form what you have told me of your experiebce so far, I feel much more comforting in trying accutane.

yeah most derms put only people with severe acne on it, that is why i was so surprised that he put me on it even though i have very mild acne, but liek u i have had it for ages, i have been on so many things here is a list of the things i have tried throughout the years:

panoxyl 5 gel

erythromycin

zineryt topical solution

amoxicillin

tretinoin gel

bp

defferin

minocycline

oxytetracycling

retin a

quinoderm

and a number of washed and all sorts of otc creams and gels

what about u? what have u been on?

oh yeah and i aksed my derm if me being on tane would cause me more red marks and if i would get scars and she said no, so if i do get any there wil be trouble.

Wow! You have tried alot of medication. As for me, I havent really started battling my acne probs till last year even though I have had it for mor ethen 8 years. I always thought it will clear and at times it did by itself but woyuld always come back. I have tried:

Tertracycline,

Minocycline, and

BP

So I havent tried many, but I am terribly sick and tired or this acne condition. As for you, how mild was your acne? I get a feeling it is more mild then mine. I get probably 4-5 pimples a week, some BIG like cysts while others are more like whiteheads.

I am almost into my 4th week of being on accutane. Let me tell you one thing, the initial breakout will be like you have never seen before. I went from barely moderate acne to looking like I am pizza with ALL the toppings. I can only now start to wash my face again because before it was so bad that if I did anything, all the scabs would fall off. Last thing I want is a face full of scars. Once the initial breakout is over, clear sailing from there. My face is clearly quite nicely and if I use scotch tape to get rid of my million strands of dead skin, it looks AMAZING in the morning.

Hey JimBob,

Thanks for your input. I would like to ask how old you are and how long you have had acne for? Also, how are the pimples when you broke out large and pus filled ones? Or cysts? Also, how do they clear up? I heard that the red marks take longer to clear when you are on accutane then when off. Well, do you still look like a pizza face now, after a month into accutane?

I am 18 years old, but I will be 19 in July. I only started to get acne since around December so when it hit me, I was really self-concious. For when I broke out, I went from having red marks and 1-3 white heads to 20+ white heads, my first ever cyst and those other type of pus filled things deeper in the skin but you still can see. This all happened the first week going on accutane. If you do not pick at any of them, they will dry up and sometimes flake away within a few days. The one cyst that I had was on my chin and it took 2 weeks to leave. It wasn't big but it was a cyst. Eventually, the deep pus came to the surface and it went away. I think I just had one of my nose, but I popped that because anything on my nose NEVER scars. I find that the red marks go away quicker, actually. When I purchased accutane, the pharmicist told me what it will do is keep peeling away your layers of skin. So, in the start it will look really read until the peeling hits the redness layer of skin. Then GOOD BYE redness, or at least a lot of it. I can see that happening right now. My face is looking really good right now, my forehead however is breaking out. One thing I noticed is, where ever there is a black head that you know has been there for a while, it will come out as a white head while on accutane. It is cool though because while you are on accutane, your acne is like lightning; it will never hit the same spot twice. Once one zit comes and goes, I never see that spot hit again.

Yeah I have tried loadsa stuff and all of it was a load of crap.

I think it started for me when i was about 12, not bad though, it has always been mild but persistant, although i remember waking up one morning and it was the worst i had seen it and i didnt wanna go out anywhere and when i finally did and put on makeup i looked a total mess. I dont know what caused it to go so bad, then weeks later it started clearing up but i stil had it but very mild. but it stil bugs me loads so i want rid for good.

I have never had a cyst in my whole life, i used to get tiny ones, some big round the side of my face, nothin huge though

b4 roaccuaten i used to get about 2 new pimples a week, but they would saty for like ever, and then more would come up the next week.

at least that is all over now and that spot on my cheek that i thought was turning into a scar is now drying up, as id didnt put moiturizer on last nigth and this morning and it is working, my face aint dry, i thought it would be but it aint.

anyways u get ya tabs today dont u, u will be soon popping your first pills yay. :)

You aren't suppose to moisturize your face at all while on accutane. The purpose of accutane is to shrink the glands and let the skin flake. If you moisturize and the flaking process slows or haults, you will see mild after-effects.

Hey there,

Yep, I got them tabs today! Gonna start tonight. Wish me luck. As for moisturizer? Are you sure your not supposed to use it? I have never heard of that before. My derm never told me about that.

of course u have to moisturizer while on roaccutane, cause if u dont u will end up with dry flaking red sore skin.

All derms say to moisturizer, if u look on message boards especially for people on roacctuane with specialists in roaccutane they say to moisturizer. God your skin would bo so wrecked if u didnt.

anyways warrior i am so pleased that u have now started tane, sorry how long did u say u were on it for?

I love waking up each morning now just to take my pills hehehe weired huh

i also keep telling my mum each morning how long i have been on them lol

so u going to moisturizer?

what products u using ; fadce wash, moisturizer, etc?

where u from again?

Hey,

Good to hear from you. Yeah I just started and was soooo terrified when I took the pill. Now I guess I am alright. Have yet to notice anything yet. And yes, I am going to moisturize as I always have, but do you have to moisturize the whole face? as of now I just moisturize the bottom half of my face. Here is my so far daily routine that will probably change further into the treament as my face gets more dry.

Morning/Night: Wash with Proactiv

yeah it will take a few days to notice aything, i didnt notice anything till day 14, i think it was anyways!!!!

humm I had a weired crying spell last night and couldnt stop, i was just lying in bed crying, weired huh.

I moisturizer the whole face!! I dont want my face to get dry and cracked. lol

but i suppose it is up to u!

this is a long shot but do u know anything bout taking diet pills with roaccutane? I have also started protein powder, (god it is so gross it made me sick) but anyways i asked the board where the specialists in R, are and they didnt seem to know. so i think i am going to ask on this board

what dya reckon

so how is proactive working for ya?

Crying spell? Hmm...I hope your alright! Anyhow, I'm sure you are. I guess we all naturally get down at times. Its like hwat they say, lifes a rollercoaster. I decided to change my routine up a bit, mornings I wash with cetaphil cleanser and cetaphil SPF15 moisturizer afterwards, night I use Proactiv Wash and Biore Moisturizer. I swicthed it just in case the BP in the Proactiv dries my skin too fast. If my skin keeps getting drier I will probably switch to Cetaphil wash both days and nights.

3rd Day on Tane now and have yet to see any real effects. Still nervous about the potential side effects. Got a few new pimples buit do not know if it is a result of accutane. But I did notice that two of my previous pimples have got a hole in em which is really strange. Never had anything like this before. I really hope they do not turn into scars!!!! I hope my initial break doesn't get too bad and NO SCARRING PLEASSSSSE!

As for the diet pills, from what I have studied, they do not work. The best secret to burning fat is to eat many small meals a day. For me I eat atleast 8 meals a day all spread apart, approx. 2 hours. This keeps your metabolism running on high all day. Also, ofcourse, physical activity is key!

Yeah a crying spell it freaked me out, I was thinking what i would do if my family died and how i would cope, i dont know where the hell that came from but i couldnt stop crying for hours and i thought when i wake up i will be the same but i wasnt.

I dont think u should use proactive if it has bp in it, u will be so dry.

if u were only on day 3 when u got those new pimples i would say it wasnt the intial breakout i think ti was day 14 for me, but i suppose we r all different.

that is very strange that they have holes in them, have they gone now or stil there?

i am really scared of scarring. so i have stopped using my johnsons 5.5 gentle cleanser (i used to use it every day and night) now i only wash with water and then once a week do the johnsons stuff. doing this also seems to make my pimples go away quicker whcih is gud.

that spot that i thought would scar has now vanished and the redness isnt there at all cause my mum has this stuff that is called cocoa butter with aloe vera and vit e in it and it says it soothes and smoothes red marks is it really good.

anyways let me know how ya progress is going

nearlly a month since i have been on the tablets on wednesday i think. yay :-

Hey there,

Yeah I will prob stop using Proactive soon once my skin get sreally dry. I am only on day 5. Looks like I have a long way to go. As for your initial break, are you still breaking out? Is it really as bad as whaqt everybody says? As for my side effects, I can feel my lips getting a bit dry but nothing too serious yet. How is your sensitivity to the sun? Over where Im form, its getting pretty warm and sunny and I have spent lots of time outside recently. I feel my skin is itchy here and there but nothing too serious. Also, do your red marks fade faster now that you are on accutane? Or is it slower?
