Should I get my hormones checked (woman-oriented topic)?

Recommended Posts

I've been taking low estrogen birth control pills since about September and have been miserable since. It has done nothing for my acne (I'm actually breaking out on my chest and back now), and I still have severe cramping and spotting.

I had taken Ortho-TriCyclene in the past and had great results with my skin, but it was an emotional roller coaster ride towards the last 3 months (was on it for a year).

I'm starting to think that for me, hormones are playing a big part of my acne. I've been using Dan's regime for about a month and a half with ok results. The smaller zits, blackheads and whiteheads are almost non-existent. But the larger ones still carry on about their business.

Should I consult with a doctor? I have the impression that this testing is expensive and usually reserved for when there is potentially a big problem. But given family history (My mother: "The only thing that helped my face was going through menopause and estrogen therapy") I almost feel it is worth it, though I may have problems convincing a doctor (or a derm) of that.

Wow, that got long. But let me know what you guys think.
