cortisone and hypertrophic scars

i saw on tv they were putting cortisone/steroids into someones scars to help reduce them.. i was wondering if i rub otc cortisone on the hypertrophic scars ONLY will it work ?? it sounds like it wouldd cuz i heard that cortisone thins your skin.

oh ok ty ! should i buy a syringe and put the cortisone cream in it ??? and then just shoot it into the scar ?

The corticosteroid the Dr. injects is in liquid injectible form and is only available to physicians. Most likely, the doc will inject a dilute solution of kenalog which is the brand name for triamcinolone acetate, which is in the same family of steroids as cortisone. Make sure to go to someone who is experienced and has done this before because if it is not diluted enough or is injected incorrectly, it will cause atrophy in the surrounding healthy tissue (just as it does in the scar tissue). It shouldn't be too expensive at the docs office.
