For most of my teen years, I've convinced myself that I have moderate-severe acne. And I think that when I was 13, 14 and 15, that was true. I'm 16 1/2 now, and recently went to the doctor for a physical, and told her I was concerned about my serious acne. She kind of laughed (you know what I mean) and told me that my acne is pretty mild and I shouldn't be so worried about it. Now I feel kind of ashamed. For the past 3 years, I've been shy and afraid to ask girls out thinking my skin was so terrible and people would think I was gross. So now I'm at the point of realization, and I'm not sure what to do. I know there are more or less 2 routes you can take to try stop acne completely- a medication attack with products like BP and SA, or a nourishment route, like Christine's Regimen. My face can tolerate harsh products well enough, as long as I use a moisturizer at least once a day. However, after a few years of appliying BP and SA, I'm afraid I'm just destroying my skin for life. I think the reason why my acne isn't totally clear at this point is because my regimens were never strict enough, although some provided moderate levels of success.

So I don't know if I should put together a very strick BP/SA regimen (I'm thinking Botchla's) or try noursihing my skin back to health?

Anyone who has taken the time to read my rambling, you have no idea what it means to me and any responses are appreciated more than you would know.

yea i was thinking all the chemicals couldn't be good for your skin in the long run. be gentle so you don't irritate your skin, use a good moisturizer. did your derm give you any prescriptions? mine gave me a topical antibiotic and retin-a. and it worked almost perfect, hopefully for a while now and I'll grow out of it

You could try glycolic acid. But I guess you're too young to try it though. It's an anti-aging thing but it's good for exfoliation. It gets rid of clogged pores or so they say.

First, I don't think it's necessary to apply both bp and sa. That seems excessive, and will probably cause unnecessary dryness, when using a generous amount of bp should help a great deal.

I have been using bp for 24 years, and underneath the dryness, my skin is really soft and puffy. It is more noticeably nicer in warmer months, when it's not so dry and cold. I cannot vouch for long term side effects of bp, I'm not a specialist. But I have not noticed anything wrong with my skin. My big regret is not having thought of the regimen myself, since I would likely have prevented some of the mild scarring (hyperpigmentation and red spots) that I incurred from not applying sufficient amounts of bp.

I only use bp, and have always only used bp, overnight. Since I achieve about 95%+ clear skin, this suits me fine. I have very sensitive skin, and I am fine using a moisturizer (any, even with oil doesn't bother me).

I only wish I'd heard of the Regimen when I was your age. Because it was later on in my twenties that my acne worsened (spreading and being more persistent) and left me with marks. I have tried SA (in the form of ClearLogix, but the cleanser is overly drying, and it's just way too drying with their spot cream). So bp it's been for me.

One last thing: I think it is such a shame that a guy, because he feels self-conscious about his acne, doesn't ask girls out. How sad. It's sad for the both the guy and the girl who's wishing for a nice guy to ask her out. I decide whether I like a guy based on his personality, how nice he is, and how happy I feel when I'm with him, not on the basis of the health of his skin.

My suggestions: try the Regimen, faithfully (no SA), and ask the girl of your dreams out on a date.

you can't just say SA is wrong, everyone's different. SA's good for exfoliation, great for small pimples, blackheads, small whiteheads where there's no bacteria. bp kills bacteria, which is better for bacateria, inflammation (cysts, pastules, etc.)

using both is a great, just don't irritate and make it worse. know your limits in how much you use
