List of highly recommend doctors

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I remember a couple of years back when Beautiful Ambition had the sticky threads. One of the sections was highly recommend doctors.

Unfortunately, all that was deleted (Beautiful Ambition) I was wondering if that list still exists somewhere on that site.

It's a shame that list was deleted. I understand Beautiful Ambition wanted to delete his own personal information/advice, but there was zero need to delete that list of highly recommended dermatologist (It was based on acne org feedback)

Also, any great dermatologist people would like to list/share their experiences?

Well, he was a moderator. What did you expect?

He was able to delete his posts because he had the administrative rights. We, on the other hand, cannot delete a single post even if we wanted to. This is the bone of contention when it comes to assigning moderators. You should NEVER designate active posters as mods. That always leads to conflict of interest.

Dr Peter Rullan, Chula Vista, San Diego, USA - I have been seeing Dr Rullan on and off for over a year. My scars have softened a lot due to the treatments I have received with him and I couldn’t be happier. His bed side manner and the rest of the staff are super friendly as well. For people unfamiliar with Dr Rullan, he offers a trio package which is subcision, cross carbolic and micro needling. This will set you back roughly $1750 USD (last time I checked).

Dr Davin Lim, Brisbane, Australia - I was a patient of Lim’s for over a year from 2017 to 2018. He performed multiple subcisions, laser treatments and filler on me. I know his status here is controversial however my opinion of him is nothing but positive. He’s methodical and tailors the treatment to the patient. With his help, my scars have improved significantly (always hard to give a % so I’m not going to but you can follow my thread and the pictures speak for themselves). I do not know where his new clinic is and do not know what his current prices are. But at the time I was treated the prices were very reasonable. Due to the fact I was travelling from New Zealand, he would take this into consideration and didn’t make me go to a million appointments before he would treat me. I really appreciated this.

Dr Ben Behnam, Los Angeles, California - I actually found this doctor through acne.org when I couldn’t get down to San Diego from LA due to work commitments. I was skeptical of LA dermatologists but was pleasantly surprised with Doctor Ben Behnam. He doesn’t push any treatments on you and doesn’t try to sell you a laser package. He is also extremely friendly. I tried TCA cross, filler and subcision. IMO subcision prices are overpriced as hell lol but loved using him for filler and TCA cross treatments. I can’t remember the exact prices for these treatments now but filler is approx $500 USD and I believe TCA Cross is around $600-700 USD however I am unsure. He treated me in 2019 and I would definitely go back. He is the doctor I have the least interaction with by the way (out of the three) but still recommend him ☺️

I would only visit Emil, because he really seems to care about his patients. I got a treatment from him and something went wrong, and he did guarantee that he wouldn’t leave me alone. All other doctors I don’t trust, Lim had a medical report for unethical decisions, this would make me really suspicious, some people say that he burned a woman’s face pretty bad. Moreover he should get a Oscar for his before and Afters for best lighting, because he achieves 50% improvement with lighting and Probably has nothing to do with his treatments. On top of that works with BA this guy is really suspicious and deletes bad posts about Lim and himself l, and the statements from them Are really contradicting + they’re making money together.
Rullan and Benham are quite expensive, but Rullan offers phenol.

I'm actually in Australia and for a long time I was going to see Lim. What on earth is that medical board issue? What happened? This is what's holding me back...I don't want my face ruined by a procedure going wrong. I want to see more reviews on acne org by actual posters before I would fly to see him. Also, I personally think not everyone can handle lasers and it should be mandatory by law that a potential patient gets a test laser patch on their skin.

A while ago there was a post on one thread that dr lim had issues with the Australian Medical Board. There was a link to the institution. I followed it and there was a remark next to the Dr's link that he's been reprimanded for unethical conduct.

I also urge you to be cautious as Dr Lim supports the anonymous "specialist" BA, who uploaded not one, but two fake photos of himself. I can send you a screenshot of both photos taken from his website to see for yourself if you wish, because in the meantime he took them down. On one of them he even pretends to be a doctor, wearing a white medical coat.

Yeah I have heard all that controversy surrounding Lim. The posts here have been increasingly more skeptical of him and I don’t want to invalidate anyone’s opinion/experience if they’ve had a bad one. I speak highly of him and think he’s a good scar revision specialist. But always do your own research I guess!

That is so damn shady on BA’s part. Big yikes.

In regards to the Beautiful Ambition issue, I followed the two threads that got deleted and I remember him posting when he was a moderator. He was fantastic when he was a moderator. I can't comment on his new venture though as I haven't used it.

Also, the fact that acne org moderators deleted those two threads tell me that they don't allow free speech and they don't care about scar sufferers on this forum. They need to do better!

He could have kept that list of highly recommended dermatologist. There is little value of him deleting that and keeping it a secret.

Yes :/Unfortunately, deceptive, manipulative behaviour, as well as grandiosity and paranoia are characteristic of his personality. Having communicated with him, I have a much clear idea of him now and I understand how fruitless it has been to try to reason with such personality.

It's censorship. It's totally unfair to silence the people who suffered damage because BA recommended them unnecessary treatments.

This post is becoming the list of highly unrecommended doctors :smileys_n_people_9:

It's so difficult to wade through all the bullshit to find an honest and good doctor. Especially when there are a lot of grey area tactics used to drum up business. There is another certain European doctor (not Emil) that is very well disliked in this forum who rather openly manipulates Google rankings. Type their full name (Dr Blah blah + SEO) into google and you'll find a rather interesting facebook testimonial for an SEO company that specialises in reputation management and hiding negative content online. They congratulate themselves on having made this doctor (who didn't have many patients according to them) appear to be the biggest specialist in the country, when he is not. All through simple google ranking manipulation.

I think a lot of these doctors are into reputation management, especially Lim as he always say that he has a reputation to lose.

Spot on. That's why I would like to hear reviews from actual users on sites like acne.org. I also wonder how many positive reviews are actually legitimate. And it could work the other way...there might be some fantastic scar revision specialist who are not well known. They just don't have the hype.

It's hard to find great dermatologist in Australia. Lim is the obvious one, but I don't live in that part of Australia and I'm not going to fly to see someone without reading more verified testimonials.

Lim has lots of YouTube followers. It's great that he's providing knowledge to the public, but his followers only get fed the good stuff. Lim is like many doctors in that he only posts his really good results. Most people don't know that he's gotten a number of negative reviews. He does seem to have a bit of an arrogance that is good and bad. He seems like the type who will brag about all of his good results, but will make excuses when his procedures don't work. His reviews bear this out.

Heard Benham's price for TCA Cross and was taken aback. If applying TCA brings him that much money, he doesn't need lasers.....

Rullan jacked his price up manyfold mostly like due to demand. He's good for subcision and Phenol Cross but his place is probably not the place you want to go to for lasers and fillers.

Any reviews on Steven Weiner? Is he a bad dermatologist as well?

He definitely has all the tools. I've seen him do everything - subcision, RF microneedling, TCA Cross, etc. Not sure if he's as aggressive as the other doctors but at least he understands scar therapy. It's probably best to search the forum to see what other people think.

Weiner performs Bellafill which I am highly against.

It's definitely a risk. Hopefully in the next 5-10 years we will see better and longer lasting fillers coming to the market. I think this is where scar revision will most likely progress in the short and medium term future.

Do we have a list of preferred providers in the Boston area or in New England? I know a few people who have the right tools and appear to have the expertise as well but the jury's still out RE their results as far as my own experience goes.

For example, there's Dr. Neelam Vashi at BMC. She has pretty much every tool used in scar treatment except the CO2 laser. Also I think her subcision technique is not typical (doesn't mean it's bad, necessarily) - she uses a Dual Bevel 1.0mm angled Sideport Knife as opposed to a cannula needle. And only topical numbing was used, not injectable lidocaine.

There's also Dr. Shanthala in Peabody who got her MD in anesthesiology but has since got tons of training in cosmetic procedures including acne scar treatment. And she has very happy customers. Reading about her and having had a consult, I think she knows what she's doing. But I haven't started working with her...yet.

I also know of a Fraxel expert in the area. Dr. Rohrer. Unfortunately for me, Fraxel was not helping the appearance of my scars even after 8+ treatments (spread out over about 8 years). But that could just be my skin - it doesn't mean that Fraxel won't work or someone else, necessarily!

Anyone else know of anyone good in MA / New England?

You are probably right. Personally I don’t like fillers, even temporary ones. My personal and current philosophy on scars is to rely as little as possible on temporary solutions. I want to feel progress, even a little bit, that is permanent. I want to feel more secure that my skin is improving without relying on fillers. This is my personal opinion though. Feel free to disagree.

I agree with you...but I am not seeing any improvement in my own scars after months of treatments...so I am wondering if filler is sometimes necessary to get a result - ANY result.  :(
