I see, but it gives less improvement than TCA cross? Or what's the reason doctors choose to go for TCA cross if Phenol gives same results and less complications?

From what I understand, Phenol is a novel technology compared to TCA cross and even not every derm is willing to perform TCA Cross.

I should just like to add that Phenol/Carbolic Acid is the strongest peeling agent on the market. In fact, it is so strong that it can potentially induce cardiac arrest. Hence, you need to have your heart monitored with ECG while you're getting the peel.

As such, Phenol isn't any ordinary peel that you can whip out at a moment's notice and apply on the patient's face. This is probably why many doctors resist using it.

I do think there needs to be a lot more transparency over how expensive and long this process can be and if its worth starting if you can not complete it. It is simply not reasonable to expect dramatic improvement after 1-2 treatments. The only real success story I would say I have seen is f93d's thread and he had 14 treatments and probably spent upwards of 20k total.

I think there is a massive deception here with before and after pics for products and services. There's people using pictures of post-treatment swelling and saying that a product or one treatment gave it to them. When you start thinking about the incremental process, and how much money you have to spend along the way, it reframes everything. If I had known that almost 4000 would give a nominal improvement, I would have budgeted differently and probably would not have started the process until I could afford to get several treatments back to back.

and don't get me wrong, my scars are not as deep or jagged or harsh. I am glad I got those treatments. However, if I had known that the recommendation of 3 treatments and eventual fillers might be wrong, I would have just saved up my money until I could afford the treatments back to back to back to back to back.

I’ve been following your progress and I think your results are incredible. Dr Rullan is a great scar revision specialist and I can’t wait to see him again.

I must say, I agree with your comments regarding treatment improvement versus money spent. I have been on this journey since 2016/2017 and the money you will spend time and time again before any great improvement is achieved is a lot. Obviously worth it though.

I am in the process of saving money so I can just do everything I want. I am contemplating the phenol peel but it is costly however Rullan’s office claim the peel is the best bang for your buck and you will see a lot of improvement in just one single session just that it will set you back $5550 USD I believe. I wonder if this is true? Some claim the peel is not great for acne scars just texture....

Anyway I wish you luck with your journey. It is a slow and costly one...

By any chance did you get phenol cross done with Dr. Rullan? If so have you had a visible improvement on small box scars & ice picks?

Yes I’ve had phenol cross and it’s softened some of my scars but I have a few very stubborn scars that just don’t budge.

Thank you so much.

I was quoted 6000 by Dr Rullan for a phenol peel when I first did my consultation. it was either one trio and then a phenol or three trios and then fillers.

I do think I have made progress. I don't look like I have been stabbed in the face anymore. But I don't think I am willing to spend 1750 on one treatment when there are less expensive drs out there that will give you way more for the same amount of cash.

Also, I believe my scarring has gotten to a point where it's not tethered or as severe. I might as well try to go with a less expensive provider.

I wanted to do an update 3 months after my last procedure. I am questioning if the money spent was worth it. Many people take after pics where, whether they know it or not, they have microswelling. Even first thing in the morning, the face is swollen a little bit and the scars look more obvious as the day goes on.

That being said, I think my level of improvement is probably at or under 10%. I will be going to a different provider and will share my experiences with that.

I feel that the recommendation I was given was not very accurate at all, and got my hopes up. I would rather be direct and honest with people and share that you probably are going to need way more treatments than you think you will.

Don't be fooled by the temporary swelling; my scars are still noticeable at the end of the day.

I do think the edges of my scars softened up, but I don't know if it was worth spending that money.

The thing that still bothers me is how painful my first recovery was. I was in a tremendous amount of pain after the procedure, and I feel like no one warned me that could happen at all. Which was very uncool.

The second recovery was fine, but then again, I don't see huge results. There are less expensive drs out there, and you might be better off finding someone else who can do subcision and other treatments.

At this point, I don't think I can recommend this Dr, and I won't be returning to his practice.
