Just got subcision+phenol cross+microneedling from Dr Rullan- will post progress pics here!

Posted (edited)

I'm posting here and getting ready to make a youtube channel documenting my progress. This is my first acne treatment. I am glad I did my research first.

I am on day 4 of my recovery.

I will post before pics, pics immediately after, and my daily progress.

A quick recap of my process:

did an online consultation, spoke to Amy and made an appointment,

day of appointment:

check in, fill out paperwork, get called in by medical assistant.

the MA swiped my face with rubbing alcohol and acetone. After, she gave me a fan because the phenol peel can sting! She also gave me ice to put on my cheeks to numb myself before the doctor came in.

Dr Rullan came in and he was awesome! He did the phenol cross first, and that took a few minutes. It did sting and I was glad to have that fan.

Next, he put the needle for the local anesthetic in my face. I felt the liquid enter my cheeks and it was pretty trippy. Before I knew it, he was using the needle to perform the subcision and it was- again- pretty trippy. I could hear the needle ripping through those fibers that were pulling my scars down. It sounded like a knife cutting through a box. He did one side, and then put the anesthetic in the other side and did the subcision there. I could feel some pulling and pressure, but it wasn't too bad.

The last step was the microneedling. It was kind of scary because it was so loud. I could feel a little bit of poking, but it wasn't unbearable.

At the end, my face was covered in blood. The MA had to reset my pressure bandages a few times because I bled through them.

*edit* I also got a steroid shot by the MA!

I even got blood in my hair.

I was swollen like a chipmunk, but it wasn't actually that bad and the swelling went down to a normal-ish level within 24 hours. However, that's when the scabs and bruising appeared.

By day 4, I noticed that my temples had sunk in a bit and my scarring was noticeable in that area. However, it was obviously greatly reduced compared to what it was before.

I took arnica montanis daily, starting 3 days before the procedure, drank lots of water, got lots of rest, and on day 4 I feel confident that I can leave the house if I had to, granted I would wear a face mask and hat and sunglasses to protect myself from the sun..

If you have any questions let me know!

Thanks for sharing!

Some questions:

Did you get sculptra this session?

Are you planning on doing suction?

How many sessions are you planning to do?

I did not get sculptra.

I will do suction when my face doesn't hurt. It's still tender.

I am planning on doing as many as I can afford.

I made a collage.F10C4C7A-8506-49F0-8CED-302554FC6E5E.jpeg.d946b1c2c7b131744606b280047637a0.jpeg

I honestly did not anticipate how tender my cheeks would be. I felt like I couldn't laugh or smile for a good 4 days. totally worth it, but I felt awkward talking to people because I couldn't open my mouth all the way.

hi @carmensandiego23 your skin is coming along well! I recently had my first subcision/rf microneedling on the 13th and 2 weeks out i feel my skin looks a lot better. Some scars have returned but for the most part they have pretty much softened.

the scarring is coming back, but in my opinion it's not as "harsh" as it was before...

I would honestly give it about 2 months for you to see the real results. I have similar scarring as you (maybe worse) & I saw Dr. Rullan last year & he is seriously amazing. The first month or so I would of said my improvement was around 30% but as time went on I could see the real improvement was more around the 15%. Nonetheless, I’m content with my results & I look forward to seeing him again.
Wishing you the best of luck!

Thank you to everyone.

I gotta say, my face stayed tender for a while! It took almost two weeks for me to feel comfortable moving my face all the way.

For a good 4 days or so, opening my mouth to laugh or smile or eat was SUPER uncomfortable. Next time, I will stock up on smoothies and meal replacement shakes because my cheeks were SORE.

Even after the 4 days, I felt like I had to sleep on my back and be extremely careful when washing my face.

Everyone's pain tolerance and bodily response is different, but if you are going to get this procedure, I would seriously get tylenol and arnica montanis and some ice packs or wash cloths that you can freeze.

I am planning on getting this procedure done again when I am able to afford to, so obviously my discomfort isn't that bad that it would discourage me from doing it again, but I want other people to be prepared that you might have tenderness for longer than you expect.

I have similar scarring and 3/4 rounds of subcision with two of them having filler (because I have widespread so it’s hard to get every spot) has made a huge difference! I’ve read on here that it’s necessary to have a filler so the tethers don’t re-attach. Even though the filler is temporary, it substantially improves/softens the scarred area by allowing it to heal while not being tethered.

What type fillers did you get? Sculptra?
