Carbolic/phenol cross & subcision with Dr. Rullan journey: with FINAL RESULTS!

Hey guys it’s day 12 and I’m sure I still have residual swelling but I’ve gotta say my skin hasn’t looked this good since I was 14. I’m so happy. I have makeup on in this picture but you can really tell the difference from before the procedure. This is my “worst” side btw, the left temples. Will definitely update at 1-2 months to tell you the final results.

Looking good girl! Nothing wrong with a little makeup. Skin will never be perfect even with 1000 more treatments, so it's all about getting it to where you're comfortable.

1 month update: skin is looking good. It obviously doesn’t look like smooth skin esp compared to my arm or something but there’s a huge improvement on my temple which was my biggest concern. I’d say there’s like a 50-80% improvement in harshest lighting. Very impressed with the one treatment!

Looks great!

Question: You started suction on day 9, how often and how long did you perform suction? Did you put a lot of pressure? How do you know when it's bruised? When the skin turns purple?

Thanks! I just used a silicone cup without vacuum from Amazon, it was like $13 for a set. Honestly I didn't do it like anyone recommended, I just squeezed the cup and made sure that my skin was being sucked into the cup for 4 seconds. I did that 2-3 times per section on my face. If I did it for too long then it would leave a lot of bruising which I didn't want. After I suctioned it would be kind of red but nothing crazy. It's been working fine for me. I think as long as you elevate the skin and tissue into the cup then you're good.

Great results after just one treatment!  Rullan is one of the best out there.  I am going for my 5th sub in a few weeks.

Thanks all!! I think the suctioning was really key, as I didn’t have any fillers. I’ve been lucky that my work is pretty flexible with me only coming in for a few hours each day. I do have to work with people though, so the first week and a half was tough. I did take 4 days off which wasn’t enough. I’m overall so happy!!

Update: here are my 6 week (final?) results with before and after side by side :)

the most dramatic improvement is my left temple, which had the worst scarring. Improvement of 50%+.

in the areas of milder scarring, improvement is 20-50%.

8 week update:

My results look pretty much consistent. I have to admit, most of my "after" photos have been taken during the morning or late morning, soon after awaking. I wonder if most of the improvement is just morning swelling. When I take photos late at night, most of my scars look pretty similar to before and it's hard to really see much of an improvement compared to the before photos. I don't want to discourage anybody but it's really difficult to say if I have much of an improvement at all, comparing my "before" daytime photos to my current nighttime skin. At the bare minimum, I think I see a 15% improvement at least during the day.

Edit:

9 week update:

Overall I'd say my improvement is definitely noticeable, it's not perfect but it's definitely improved. The % improvement overall would be around 25%. :)

It always looks better in the morning due to swelling and puffiness.

Multiple people on here reported about it but people seem to ignore this.

If I would take after pictures of any procedure in the morning, you would think that I barely have scars left but after swelling goes down throughout the day, scars become more visible. Thats why before and after pictures don't necessarily have to be photoshopped or taken in different angles/lighting to be misleading or fake results ... the swelling in the morning alone can be VERY misleading ... at least thats my observation.

I tend to observe my skin in the evening before my night skincare routine. I have found for myself that it is the best time to observe my scars since there is no swelling making my scars look better nor is there any irritation from washing my face making my scars look worse.

@swen

that's great news that you see improvement already! May I ask you what the phenol cross procedure involved? Is a so called curettage of the with phenol acid treated scars on the day after the procedure normal?

Thanks for your encouragement!

The phenol cross was just him applying the acid with a small brush into all my indented scars. The applied areas turned a darker color and were thin flakes of skin that fell off within 9 days. I'm not sure what you mean by curettage.

Thanks for the reply.

Apparently at the clinic where I enquired about phenol cross in Switzerland they have very strange practices re test treatment: they apply the acid only to remove the scabs the next day. Beyond odd! I didn't enquire any further.

Hope you are happy with your improvement so far and you get more improvement with time.

What made you decide to do cupping instead of filler?

Also out of all the treatments which one do you think yielded the best results, and how much did it cost?

Yeah what superburrito said, plus Rullan isn't well known for fillers and it'd be too much of a pain in the ass to run and get fillers elsewhere after the procedure.

I only had one professional treatment with Dr. Rullan. It made about a 40% total improvement and right now it's 2 months out. 100% worth it, will do it again one day when I save up more.

Sure I understand. I am just trying to see whether or not the filler is worth it or if I should save the money and do cupping instead.

Is it standard to get CROSS and subcision done together? I thought it was better to space out treatments in order to give the skin time to heal.

@xander_33 I’ve done cross and subcision at the same time and haven’t had any issues. One is beneath the skin and one is on the surface so it doesn’t conflict. I’ve also had microneedling done after cross, and I have not noticed it affecting healing, even though both are affecting the service.

If you have the luxury of living near a specialist, then sure you can space them out. It is very common for Dr. Rullan's patients to get the "combo treatment", which is microneedling, CROSS and subcision all at the same visit. I opted not to do the microneedling since I can do that at home, and I also thought it would be better to not completely traumatize my skin on one day lmao. Dr. Rullan is in the top 1% of acne scar specialists so many who travel all over the world to see him try to get everything done in one visit. If he says it's okay, I believe him.

What was the suction cupping set you used?
