Any dermatologist skilled at subcision in Edmonton, Calgary or Vancouver? Already seen Dr. Rullan and Weiner!

Can anyone recommend a dermatologist who would do aggressive subcision in anyof these cities? I have been to Florida to see Dr. Weiner once (no results with the infini RF and subcision and filler) and Dr. Rullan twice (also no results with minimal bruising and did suctioning this past time) this past year and don't feel like travelling far or spending so much money when I can get these procedures done locally (I was told you need at least 6-8 or more subcisions to get substantial improvement). I have super wide burn scars on the cheeks along with other major textural issues that have gotten a lot of results from several Fraxel repairs and when I stretch out the skin it looks smooth and even. I don't really have any pitted scarring anymore with all the laser work i have done but do have minor fat loss and one wide scar and rolling scaron my right cheek and 2 very wide scars on the left cheek.

I have thick skin and it's very stubborn and seems to only respond positively to aggressive treatments. I had extremely positive results just after one fraxel repair but after that not much even though I kept stubbornly going back for more treatments. I highly suggest people avoid Laser at all costs and do everything else that they can and then if you really have to just do one laser at the end of all your treatments because laser can definitely causefat loss. It did on my upper cheek and one part of my forehead before I realized I can never do laser again.

I remember I did tattoo needling from a woman in Vancouver many years ago and my forehead looked amazing and then when I did laser several months after on the same area my forehead looked damaged again so perhaps my skin hates heat. So either I will find someone closer that can do subcision or I am going back into tattoo needling (which I believe operates like subcision).

My objective is to lift the final parts of my skin (I am probably at 60-70percent improvement) and then do a possible phenol peel with Dr. Rullan in a year.

How are you at 60% improvement if you just said you saw no results with Weiner and Rullan?

Because of the 8 fraxel repairs done by a Vancouver doctor. Rullan and Weiner were seen after all the laser work.

Do I understand correctly? You say you've got 60-70% improvement from Fraxel Repair, zero from Dr. Rullan&Weinar with the manual methodes, but you recommend us to stay away from lasers at all costs bc of fat loss and that the wholy grail of acne scar treatments is subcision? I am confused.

I shouldn't have dived into laser first. No one should. It has negative side effects such as fat loss and it still won't correct the scarring. And the reason I even got that much improvement is because I had severe burn scars so it altered the texture and color quite drastically doing all the laser work. I definitely didn't write anywhere that the holy grain of acne scars is subcision lol If you actually follow the posts on here they recommend to begin with subcision, RF needling, fillers and lift the base of the scars as much as possible before doing something more invasive such as laser or peels. i basically have to go backwards now. I believe I am on here asking for recommendations for subcision doctorsnot to argue about my improvements or why I did the order of what I did lol Also Rullan and Weiner are very far from me and too expensive(I saw Weiner once) and Rullan twice so I am looking for local people to assist me so I can go easily to my local people for subcision every 3-4months as you need 6-8 or more subcisions to get actual results along with suctioning or fillers afterwards.

@charisma786Oh no I don't mean to argue about improvements either. Sorry if it sounded this way. I was just confused a bit by what you are going for and decided to ask.

Yes, I think subcision w/without filler is the first and often times the best step to take on the scar correction pathway. It improved my scarring too. Maybe 10-15%. So I'm looking for a skilled derm to continue my treatment with since mine is retiring. And bc I have some free time on my handsI am doing some researchinto other treatment options.Thus the interest in lasers.:) I hope you find a good subcision specialist in your area and have good results with him.

Oh no worries! I realized I didn't clarify some things in my original post so I went back and edited it lol Yes I have major regrets on the amount of laser work I have donealthough it definitely helpedimproved the texture of myscars (mine were red burn scars and now it's almost skin color but occasionally turn white sometimes) which is why it looks better but it's still obviously not better. I remember my first subcision with Dr. Rullan I had loved but I did not use fillers or suction so the scars quickly sunk down and the second subcision with him the scars didn't lift at all and I did suction for a month and I can't even see any improvement months later. I'm also in Canada and going back and forth to doctors around the world is too pricey and difficult hence my search for locals who do it. I highly recommend laser as a super last resort (I even have some fat loss now in the central part of my forehead because of laser damage). I would say a phenol peel with Dr. Rullan in the end after all the heavy lifting is a better option than laser. And thank you hope I find someone for subcision too and wish you the best of luck in your healing!

@charisma786

Thank you :) I have an appointment with Dr. Emil in December. I am actually quite the opposite - we don't have any skilled in scars doctors where I live and I prefer to save up money and travel twice a year to an experienced  scar specialist. I wish there were more of them!

Hmm You actually gave me a good idea with the phenol peel. Thanks! I read BA recommends peels for the "final touch" instead of lasers, too.

I only wish the phenol peel with Rullan wasn't soooo expensive and that Rullan wasn't half a world away. You are really lucky to have so many good derms in North America!

Hey, did you find anyone in Canada that does subcision? I'm thinking about going up to Vancouver. So you definitely think subcision has to be done with filler to be effective?
