Laser resurfacing - full face or scarred areas only? Also PRP include?

Hi all,

I'm booking in for Deep FX laser resurfacing. Scars are on forehead and temples with a couple on one small area of cheek. Rest of face is scar free.

Any advice as to whether to get full-face resurfacing or just the areas with the scars? Clinic have stated doing half-face could leave some visible contrast between where the laser was and wasn't used. but it should fade in time? Price is only half for half face, but if best to get full face I'd do so...

Any advice, or better still experience, greatly appreciated :)

PS also considering following it up with PRP - does this add any benefit other than speeding up recovery? Advice to include or not?

@kman101I would not do Deep FX. I would instead do Scition Fully ablative erbium resurfacing.

The question is are you ready for laser, this is not where we start with acne scar treatment, you provided no picture in the post so I forget if we have discussed previously.

You always start with manual methods, then you do laser last for texture.

As you have small scars or a area, I cannot say without seeing the picture.

This is a verrrrrrrry skill dependent procedure,... get a bad Dr' and have bad results. Sometimes a plastic surgeon with a deep peel are better than blast the face general derms.

Consult at least 3 Drs have pick the one you like most, see plastics and derms if possible. Some with tiny scars can get away with a excision.

Be prepared for 2-3 weeks down time if it's a major resurfacing, redness after that for some months, makeup or tinted sunscreen is your friend.

I would never pick a procedure based off pice.

PRP does speed up recovery, but with what you need, the longer the down time the more the improvement. It depends on where you are and who the Dr is, also your scar type. Nothing is universal.

Finally always best to just treat the scar areas if you can get away with it. IF you don't trust the Dr do a test on one scar or a small area to see.

@beautifulambition thanks for your response.

For refresher, I am in Dublin in Ireland. I have posted pics here previously - basically a mix of scars on forehead and temples. I reattach a photo below for an idea.

I have consulted 2 plastics and one  dermatologist. One plastic suggested excision for a couple of scars but she wasn't confident of great results and said location was poor (near frown muscles in forehead so muscles would pull on new scar left after revision). The other 2 suggested no manual methods - they say not deep enough or well positioned (temples) for subcision.

They all think laser will give some improvement - I am not expecting huge results but seems like only treatment on the table and I feel I need to try something as much to "get it out of the system". Plus I have quite prominent frown lines and lines on forehead so laser may help these too in the process (?).

Any reason you suggest erbium over Deep FX? The clinic I am looking at is actually not a plastic or derm but a laser specialist clinic - she is an aesthetic nurse and she gives reassurances over laser depth settings etc. and has (allegedly) more laser training in Ireland than any derm or plastic. And she charges ‚1.5k vs ‚5k (plastic surgeon quote) for full face so I struggle to warrant the excess fee for a machine-driven exercise. The plastic I last went to gave me 2 week limit after consultation to book in for the laser @5k plus he was pushing for PRP @ 1.5k, and I neither liked the time pressure applied nor the prices haha. So I think I will go with the laser & aesthetics clinic. For reference (I'm not sure you like mentioning places on these posts) it is [removed].

Any further thoughts or advice appreciated.

@kman101Thanks for posting that picture, that is right, helpful.

Did you do botox, this is necessary and would help. Any clinic can do this for you. You want to soften things before laser, some of the issue is normal muscle movement(this is why people get botox).

Subcision, did you goto a Dr who did subcision and saline, Everything still looks really tethered. This takes many sessions.

I would be inclined to do Active FX after that or any CO2 laser to soften the edges of the scars.

I would lastly do Scition Fully ablative laser resurfacing to your forehead a few times or some resurfacing procedure with longer down time.

Are you dermastamping or derminating your scars monthly, using a retinoid nightly, and alternating with glycoolic peels in between Dr's sessions which are every 3 months or more.

Why would she excise here before trying the basics, that should be a last ditch thing, once you cut, ... you can't put back.

This is not true at all, about subcision(what they said - shows they are not experts in this) they can even use a normal needle or the botox needle to do some subcision to your forehead scars. Sounds like they just can't be bothered. Did you Email Dr Anil UK and Dr Emil Dernmark to discuss treatment?

So basically they are lazy laser dr's haha, this is typical ;-P

I have no problem with you doing laser with the nurse, but I do want you to do manual methods first, get botox please! Any clinic
