Permanent dry eye from Isotretinoin?

Recommended Posts

I have been on isotretinoin twice (2006 and 2016). My eyes have been chronically dry since the first round, and even more so since the second round. I never put two and two together until recently. My eyes are so dry that only thick oil relieves the burning pain, but the oil interferes with my vision. I have seen eye doctors and all they say is to use artificial tears, which do nothing for me. After some research, I believe the isotretinoin permanently damaged my meibomian glands so they do not produce oil for my tears anymore. Has anyone found a cure or treatment for this? The constant burning is driving me crazy. I wish I had known this was a potentially permanent side effect before I took isotretinoin. :(
