When to stop treating scars?

Guest

I have treated my scars, and I have seen good improvement. My doctor tells me now that i should stop, and chasing perfection is not something he supports. He suggested maybe some vascular laser to take away redness. What is your thoughts on this? :)

I don't have enough information to advise you. Acne scar treatment if variable. Some get very little improvement and others get a lot.

I don't know what was done, your scar types, the length of treatment(s).

There is no perfection with acne scar work, that is BDD or Body dysmorphic disorder often expecting glass smooth skin. I tell people at best after many treatments if you get 50% your lucky. Also yes you probably need vascular laser for PIE or reds.

Pictures of having your scars make shadows would help most, perhaps there is more to fix.

He/she sounds like a decent doctor. Most would just keep recommending treatments, especially laser treatments, just do they can make more cash. There might be something in that.

You can always seek a second opinion at another doctor.

Well done on getting decent improvement.

Thanks. I would like to upload pictures for the people to see what to expect, but last time someone stole my pictures and said i had laser done. My treatment has only been subcscision? and retin-a. Im kind of scared to do laser, because all possible side effects that can happen.

This is a good question that needs to be addressed. Good specialists will always guide you as to the realistic expectations. Some guy once said 'acne scarring is more than skin deep'. This is so very true. The reason we primarily have our scars revised is for confidence - confidence in finding a life partner, confident on our job prospects and confidence around others. A good doctor will guide us to reach this point of self esteem. Can perfection be achieved? I would think the great scar revision experts actually chase perfection, otherwise they would not be in this field. The flip side is that for some of us perfection should not be the end goal, as @connectland suggested the end point is to feel comfortable in your own skin.

Questions to all on this forum, what are your end goals? Where is the finish line? Who is guiding you?

For all the pm`s i have received. I did my "subcision" in norway.  Restylane was injected every time, but they loosened the scar tissue? at the same time. I have not filled any in two years soon. Scars are are much better after this.  I did this 4 times at age 18 to 22.  and have used retin a ever since prescribed by a doctor. The doctor said  eventually that my skin had reached what he considered normal. He did not want do laser ( which he offers) because off possible side effects it can have.  I think will maybe try vascular laser in the future.

Its all depend on you and your mind my friend.

There are people who one simple and small scar can ruin their mind and life and there are also people who dont care about more scars or other physical imperefections

I think this different reactions are relevant to the environment and friends and family and also the culture of everyone.

In every one s life because of above factors some things become very important to the person

Money or family or sex or appearance or scince or a degree or living abroad or etc

Lots of my friends which i thought allways had perfect skin also has some scars under the light i examine mine. Dont see no point doing anymore when my scars are now considered minor. We are talking about two or three little spots which are a  little lower than the rest of my skin.  I think a lot of my issues with scars where all in my head, as my friends say they never saw anything.

Can i ask how old your scars were?

I‘m interested in filler, but I dont wanna go back to the doctor every year..  Do you have to go back? or did you achieve  a permanent results since your own collagen was stimulated?

ps: sorry for my english, I am Swiss

@acnescars2000 The above user deleted their account, don't know why this was posted here. Secondly you do need filler 100% or you will be complaining here like many other's who subcision failed from re-attachment. Bad Dr's will tell you that you do not need it. That simply means they are not acne scar specialists and just experimenting on you, ... they are clueless. The World's top scar dr's in found in the FAQ in the main scar treatments sub use filler post subcision. NOT for temporary volume  but to prevent re-attachment and have you body replace the sub with it's own collagen. We are not using filler for standard aesthetics reasons and it does not matter that the product is temporary and the body dissolves it over time.

Your only other option is Chinese Cupping Amazon for a month after subcision then to prevent re-attachment. This causes bruising so be prepared. Otherwise  if you won't treat your scars properly, I would not even do subcision, as it will not be worth it and produce 0 results.

@beautifulambition Thanks for your reply

should fillers be injected immediately after subcision or should one wait a week or so?
