Can anything be done for horrendous acne scars left on my back from the 1970s and 1980s?

I was traumatized with horrendous acne on my chest and back from the 1970s and 1980s. Today I saw just how bad those scars are. Thank God the scars on my face are nowhere near as bad as the scars left on my back.

Is there any plastic surgery procedures that can help smooth out deep ice pick scars on the back? Some even go up to my neckline which I never realized until today. The photo I am attaching is not very good. The scars are much deeper and wider.

Thanks for your help.

How did you treat it, back then ? Accutane wasnt around. Did it go away overnight, or gradual. Just curious, as i've had bacne problems for a while.

@51WithSkinThank you for being patient, only one of me and I get 50+ messages a day of the worst scar cases to help, plus the scar forum. It may take me 24 hrs + torespond.

I am going to shoot straight with you. There is nothing that is 100% for perfect skin, smaller percentages... especially on the body. The body does not heal as quick or have the vascularity of the face. The skin is thick, tough, and resistant to change.

A majority of cases like yours will a combination of co2 laser w/ steriod drip,, rf needling is another option, a vascular laser or IPL for any hyperpigmentation. Body peels can be done but they seem to have fallen out of favor.

I want you to watch the video located in the FAQ - first post of the scar treatments main sub, find the hypertrophic section.

Some off label treatments some do are tanning(they say the new beds don't cause as much skin cancer for wavelengths), a spray on tan liquid, body tattoo weather traditional or medical which matches the skin color in discolored scars, photo therapy with a ALA cream, and using steroids.

Please consult a top acne scar specialist this is a hard thing to treat. Or ask your dermatologist or plastic surgeon their experience. Look for them to have treated several with body hypertrophic scars.

Back in the 1970s the doctor used a special light and also used a device to do something to the acne. Almost like opening the pores. I don't know if he made is worse or caused scars. I also took antibiotics. Remembering it now brings back the pain. If it happened today I would take accutane.

This is why I am so upset when my teen had traxe of body acne. But nowhere near as bad as I had it. The doctor gave my teen skin medication and wants to see her/him again soon to determine if accutane should be used.

@beautifulambition Thank you for your feedback and for your dedication. I will look up and research the procedures you recommend above. I will also watch the video in the FAQ.

I have several consultations coming up. I will ask them about it

With lasers can it at least even out the pigmentation if not level out the indentations? Evening out the pigmentation would help a great deal.
